I use about a 45 degree off set but it depends on the set location and what is avalable for natural guidence as well.
Look at how close the wolf can et to the pee post and use the 18 - 20" set back as a guide line only....every pee post is different and one may only require 12 - 14"
I have 8 feet of chain on all my wolf traps, 3 swivles and I weld all the rivits...always use a drag..you will loose a wolf if you tie off if you do not catch him above the pad he will likely pull out.

Are you getting mostly front or hind catchs?

Front.....if you set to close to the pee post or without an off set you will have alot of hind foot catches on both male and females
