You couldn't be more wrong. Dan Noyes is a major part of the problem. He manipulated his story to show the worst possible side of hound hunting, if it was fair and unbiased he would have shown a real hound hunt and not the worst case scenario. Is there any proof at all that the video used was even filmed here in california ? Im not saying there are no bad apples here in CA , my point is dan chose the worst video he could find and aired it.
Let me explain to you how a news story works. A reporter speaks to both sides and typically gets material from both sides. In this case, the reporter was either provided the video from HSUS or their website just as he was provided video from CHC. The reporter also gathered perspective from HSUS just as he gathered perspective from CHC.
The reporter wasn't alleging that it happened here. The video doesn't have to be from California if the method is no different from that of California.
Again, you are focusing way too much attention on the media rather than on the dirtbags that are destroying our beloved sport from within.
To be clear, all the video I used was from California. If anyone wants to forward better footage for me to use in future stories, please do so.
Dan Noyes KGO-TV 900 Front Street San Francisco, CA 94111
you guys with some good footage please forward some on to Mr. Noyes for future use. we all know the positives far away the negative footage so take advantage of the opportunity. i will find some and do the same.
I think a couple of the best ways to defeat this bill is 1) Showing that hounds are the best way to selective harvest bears by sex and 2) showing the cost to taxpayers of removing problem animals, when not hunted. I don't have the numbers for bears, but for cougar, which I'm going to assume are somewhat similar are as follows. For example, in WY hound hunters harvest 17% less females than boot hunters and in fiscal year 2007, APHIS/Wildlife Services removed 138 cougars in California and 70 in Oregon, both states that have outlawed cougar hunting with dogs as compared to 2 in Idaho and 8 in Montana that both allow cougar hunting with dogs. What is the taxpayer cost per animal removed? What is going to be the loss of revenue from license sales if this ban goes into effect? These numbers are from the book Managing Cougars in North America. Arm yourselves with the cold hard facts.... Best of luck, this is a sad deal for all of us..... There was a survey conducted on CO in 2005 and only 47% supported legal cougar hunting while 41% opposed it. As soon as the tides change, which isn't going to be long, it could happen there too.

Ok here we go. I am not on here to argue or disagree with anyone, I just wanted to let out what i am experiencing.I was young and had a broken hip and had the chance to hunt behind some very good hounds that in its self drove me to better my life and not let my leg hold me down. I have hunted with hounds for about 19-20 years now and i personally never seen the hounds get a hold of a bear like that. There is bad apples in every tree that tend to fall first and take out a few others with them. But every since this bill was introduced my 11 year old boy has been upset. Even cried a couple of times. He will be twelve this season and is looking forward to another year. But he is so scared of loosing this and our hounds. He watched the video and said dad why are they showing that we never seen the dogs do that. And it was hard to explain which is still unanswered to him.He also ask me dad that means our times together in the woods with the hounds might not be any longer.Well we set down and i explained to him and we added up what i spend every year on hound hunting. The money sure added up quick. We spend with no joke between 15,000.00 to 20,000.00 a year on everything. If not more. Then he asked me dad is that discrimination against us because we have hounds. I still can not answer that question. Then he asked me i thought we lived in a free country? Then again i can not answer that. But i feel that if this passes again feelings are opinions which everyone has a right to have (i Think we still do anyways). The money us hunters spend every year on hound hunting will be lost to the state of California.
I honestly think they need to spend the time and money on fixing the economy not hurting it,Which will happen on behalf.
The kid has questions and i don't have answers and that makes me upset seeing him worry about loosing this. These hounds are our family and friends.Which i would die for myself. They were bred to hunt and to take that away from them is cruelty in itself.
SORRY IF I HAVE MISSPELLED ANYTHING OR FOR THOSE RUN ON SENTENCES BUT I AM VERY FRUSTRATED FOR MY SON AND MY RIGHT AS A CALIFORNIA RESIDENT.I STILL CAN NOT BELIEVE CALIFORNIA WOULD EVEN ALLOW SUCH DISCRIMINATION IN THIS STATE.
My prayers go out to you guys. I live in Oregon where they took it away from me when I was nine years old. Your story about your son reminded me of myself. I cried for years. The best memories I have were then. Huntin with my family and our dogs. It was like a family reunion every weekend. These yayhoos have no idea what they are doin. There is nothing more ethical then using hounds. Like all of u all ready know it's a full time job training hounds. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication. Year round. Hound guys are the most intuned to the wild and the animals. 99percent of us are some of the best conservationist out there. This type of hunting is the only kind of hunting I know where you can practice catch and release and completely be satisfied. I'm sorry for getting into your business but it tears me up and brings back a lot of memories. They need to realize that the hounds are effective , ethical and cost effective way to control game. These timber companies ought to be helping out with this. The bears in Oregon are killing millions of trees and they can't keep up with the population

The sad part is that no one from the media will do a report of a story like this because it is the actual truth of what is happening but only a bear getting mauled will get the ratings.

Has anyone got in touch with the NRA for help in this fight? Or the NWTF, Ducks Unlimited, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation? We need all the help we can in this fight and the big boys have the power to help.
Many groups were called upon and asked by CHC if they would send a letter of opposition opposing senate bill 1221. Here is a list of groups that did respond to our much needed help and wrote letters.
Its great that so many "send a letter of opposition opposing senate bill 1221" but we need more. Has anyone been in contact with the NRA, NWTF, D.U., or the RMEF and asked for help in this fight. Im not just talking about a letter of oppostion but some real help, I know some if not all of these clubs have as much money to fight the fight as the HSUS has. They also have teams of lawyers and these lawyers could keep this tied up in the courts for yrs. We have to look outside of the box on this and use any and all means to stop this bill. Yes this bill has nothing to do taking away our guns, or stopping us from hunting turkey, ducks or elk but its a stepping stone that the HSUS has been working on for yrs. All sportsmen in this state and every state need to be doing everything they can to stop it. YOU AND YOUR SPORT WILL BE NEXT.

Research on Hound Hunting Commissioned by The Humane Society of the United States Confirms Harmful Consequences for Many Wildlife Species Scientific Analysis Supports S.B. 1221, Legislation to Prohibit Bear and Bobcat Hound Hunting New scientific findings by a leading conservation biologist support a ban on hound hunting of black bears and bobcats. Rick Hopkins, principal and senior conservation biologist for one of California’s foremost ecological consulting firms, shared his findings in a letter to Sen. Ted Lieu, D- Torrance, who recently introduced Senate Bill 1221 to prohibit the practice in California. The Senate Natural Resources Committee will hear testimony and vote on S.B. 1221 next week. “In all known studies the presence of dogs produced adverse responses in wildlife,” Hopkins wrote in his analysis, which was commissioned by The Humane Society of the United States. “Dogs can have rather pronounced effect on numerous species, including killing of young black bears, bobcats and other species including cougar kittens. Off-leash and off-trail hounds are unpredictable and cause stress and flushing behavior in many wildlife species, including deer, birds, and small mammals.” Hopkins’ analysis found a number of serious concerns related to bear and bobcat hound hunting, including: The use of roaming dogs result in adverse impacts to target and non-target animals such as bear cubs or bobcat kittens, or other wildlife, particularly protected and sensitive wildlife species. Black bear and bobcat hunting programs in California are recreational and do not provide effective means to reduce conflicts between predators and human interests. “Dr. Hopkins’ scientific analysis is consistent with complaints by ranchers, private property owners, and animal sheltering agencies in California’s bear-hunting counties of decades of hounding-related problems,” said Jennifer Fearing, California senior state director for The HSUS. “It’s time for California to join the states that do not permit the reckless and inhumane practice of hounding.” Facts: Hounding is an inhumane and unsporting practice where trophy hunters use packs of radio-collared dogs to chase down bears and bobcats before the hunter shoots the terrified animal off a tree branch. Dogs can be struck by vehicles, die from dehydration or as a result of violent confrontations with wildlife, and many are abandoned, which puts a strain on local animal shelters. Bears are very poor distance runners and may tire and be overtaken by the dog pack. In bobcat hounding, the bobcat may stop and attempt to confront the dog pack leading to possible injury and death from the conflict for both the dogs and bobcat. Fourteen states—including Montana, Colorado, Washington, Pennsylvania and Oregon—allow bear hunting but prohibit hounding. Montana’s wildlife management officials consider prohibiting hounding a feature of the state’s “fair chase” principles. S.B. 1221 is co-authored by Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg, D-Sacramento, Sens. Mark Leno, D-San Francisco and Leland Yee, D-South San Francisco and Assemblymembers Toni Atkins, D-San Diego, Bob Blumenfield, D-Van Nuys, Mike Eng, D-Monterey Park, Paul Fong, D-Cupertino, Anthony Portantino, D-La Canada-Flintridge, Jose Solorio, D-Anaheim and Das Williams, D-Santa Barbara. Thousands of Californians including wildlife advocates, ranchers, hunters and landowners have written or called in support of S.B. 1221, as have dozens of animal protection, wildlife rehabilitation and animal sheltering organizations including The HSUS, Sierra Club California, ASPCA, State Humane Association of California, the Bear League, and Wildcare. Hundreds of supporters and opponents are expected to attend the Senate Natural Resources Committee hearing on Tuesday, April 24, at 9 a.m. in Room 112 of the Capitol in Sacramento.

To answer your question, No non of us that were at the Capital Building on the 24Th could believe that testimony. That entire post you posted is just a copy of what was said to the Senators on the 24Th. It gives the assumption that you weren't at the Capitol Building to hear that bunch of lies spoke ( I could be wrong ). Hundreds of hound men, women, and children took time to drive hundreds of miles, in my case over 500 miles, others probably further, had to hear that fool speak that same speech you just posted, into the microphone in front of a the Senators. It was so bad that when Senator Fuller asked the (so called expert witness) a question he was so foolish sounding that the entire room started lightly laughing! Yet it seemed the Democratic Senator's seemed to eat his false and misleading statements up! It was truly disgusting to witness.
On the other hand the hound hunters made 100% true statements based on facts, and it seemed the Senators let all that information fall on deaf ears, because their opinion on hound hunting was already formed. Its hard to persuade someone that hound hunting is the only true form of catch and release, and the best tool to manage wildlife, when their opinion is already formed. Yet they have absolutely no education toward hunting let alone hunting with hounds. California's wildlife is being managed by so called professionals that haven't the first clue about wildlife let alone manage it! Just look at California's deer herds (oh that's right what deer herds?) You are lucky to see a deer let alone a herd. You can road hunt a renegade deer crazy dog here in California and most the time the dog cant even find a track to run!
Yeah, I couldn't make the meeting because of work but I will damn sure be at the Senate Appropriations meeting to stand up and oppose S.B. 1221. I am working on a huge article for Full Cry about the S.B. 1221 Conspiracy. But I've been at this for over three years now and I know a few things like I am pretty sure the bill falls under the auspices of CEQA, the California Environmental Quality Act. So just like they screwed us with regards to opening up San Luis Obispo County to bear hunting with CEQA we shall screw them back on 1221 with CEQA, I hope. What really scares me is that people actually elected these idiots. This bill has a long ways to go to get to the governors desk, GOD FORBID! and hopefully somewhere along the way we can kill the bill and expose the HSUS and all their minions to the light of truth, justice, and the American Way! -Pete
