Maybe I'm slow to start but that seems a little young to shock a dog. I wouldn't put a trainning collar on one that young so I wouldn't do that. At that age I want them to want to trail anything not be scared of their shadow.

Using the fencing in a pen with a gland works. I just wait until they start running it, easy enough to break later with collars if you stay on top of them.

You bet it works -- they never learn the JOY of running junk.. they do not associate it with anything other than scent at that age.But you might want to use it in a couple of different places.. they do learn places too....
usually they will only get a couple of "touches" then you might need to get creative to really impress it in their little noggins.

I use it and works the best. Hardly ever have to break dogs. They get this as soon as they are old enough to be hooked up to the chain.

Re: John Wick trashbreaking
I've been using deer scent glands for breaking for about twenty years. Been fortunate enough to have a run-around pen for my dogs which I turn them into while cleaning the kennel or to exercise. My run-around has hot wire top and bottom so it is easy to move the glands about. I actually wire the glands to the center of a little forked horn rack, run the wire through a piece of 3/4 pvc which extends the rack from the fence to where I want it.
I move it around the property extending it through bushes ect. Obviously, I expose pups to wanted game as much as possible too.
Here in South Texas I have added "hog ears" to my yard fence.
