What I Have Been Doing

Post by Budd Denny »

I know this has nothing to do with cat hunting, but this is the section I check out the most.
I've just recently sold all my big hounds, not sure if I'm staying out of the bobcat hounds for sure or not but I'm stepping out for now. I've recently started running hare hounds and I'm having a ball with it, or should I say an obsession :?. I never had the time to devote as much time into one or the other so I had to make a choice and the beagles were something that my family is more inclined to do with me so that's the route I took. He are a couple of recent runs I've had. Like cat hunting I seldom if ever carry a gun, last season I shot one hare for the hounds and they managed to catch a couple slow one's.

bud, you won't be disapointed, ton of fun and actually run alot like the bobs minus the tree. i used to judge large pack on hare trials. i believe you can learn more about what you expect from a hound by watching them run than any other game. more of them, and they behave like any other wild animal being chased. good luck and have fun!

P.S.: COME BACK AND TELL SOME OF THE NONBELIEVERS IF THEM LITTLE BOOGERS CAN MOVE A TRACK OR NOT.

Budd, why not run them on cat as well? Those Beagles can sure drive a track! I've got a buddy that has a half beagle that does well on bobcat, he has a ton of heart!

Most of my hounds are IFC Greenbay Shooter bred. I'm not like most of the beagle world, I'm looking for cold nosed, cold trailing beagles that can run in old powder snow in temps well below 0. Most beaglers complain and cull dogs for cold trailing or opening on old tracks. Geuss it's a kick back from my background with cat dogs . I'm here to tell ya it can be as hard to find a good cold nosed beagle as it is a big hound. MAYBE even harder!!! I think that's what really gotten my interest in these hounds.

Mr. Bud, here are a couple of hounds to look for in a pedegree. lar-may toast master, lar-may hunt master, jay wall of roxline, cunninghams annie, dingus McCray, adirondack bobby, adirondack dolly, and alot of the DFJ stuff that ray slaviac had also doylands cash cannon and little sport. i'm probably dating myself. but if it's cold nosed snow dogs you're looking for i would bet that their would be some of that in the wood pile somewhere. i have been in the woods with hounds that ran tracks in the adirondacks when the propane in the camper froze. somewhere between 25 and 30 below 0. with hounds that carried these blood lines, course i believe there was alittle bit of eye ball work going on. but it was still impressive. good luck, it bought back some good memories!

P.S.: I SURE WOULDN'T MIND CROSSING SOME OFF THAT IN SOME OFF THESE HOUNDS

ALSO FOR THE ONES LAUGHING ABOUT A SNOW DOG I'LL LET YOU EXPLAIN THE DIFFERENCE IN THE SNOW IN THAT COUNTRY.

Hey Budd, good hearing from you about what is going on in your life. Thanks for the videos that looks like a blast. As with CJC it makes me wonder what Riverbottom is up to these days. I think my favorite U tube video ever was his little beagle sitting in the office chair in the den watching footage of herself and her teammates on one of his rabbit hunts . Those dogs are something else. Hundreds of years bred for one thing. I am glad your family enjoys it. Keep on rockin in the free world.

just saw this thread Budd. Just because you don't have the big dogs any more doesn't mean you can't come down for a bear run or two this summer. The dogs look good.

Thanks for the complements. It's been hard now that bear training season is open, so the little dogs are getting worked hard to keep my mind off it .
