Barking on Hot Scent

Postby bjbmtry » Wed May 30, 2012 2:08 pm

I have a young Catahoula I am training right now. She comes out of a cow dog bloodline from Texas that I do not know anything about. She has a killer nose and is real good when it comes to baying and has a lot of drive. However, when I turn her into the bay, sometimes she will "yip" on her way in. Other times, she will run straight there and if the older dogs lose the hog in the brush, she will run around "yipping" at the HOT scent. I have talked to a few people that have had this problem and some people say when I get her broke, and start letting her run with the older dogs, she will stop doing the "yipping" thing and that she is just too excited. Others say it only gets worse in time.

Has anybody had this problem with a dog breed that does not normally bark on scent? If so, can you give me some input on how the dog turned out and what I can expect? Will it stop "yipping" or will it only get worse? Is there a way to break a dog from doing this?

How young is she how many hogs she been on, hard to say weather she will or will not get out of it. have had some go both ways. first id start hunting her with the old dogs if she can she will learn more from that then just going to bays. id keep hunting her unless shes getting your other dogs opening. Some dogs just need time till the switch flips.

She is about 1.5 years old and probably been on 20+ hogs. Hopefully she will stop after I get her running.

I WOULD GET RID OF HER AND WOULD NOT WASTE NO MORE TIME SHE MIGHT GET THE OTHER DOGS BARKING ALL OVER THE HILLSIDE LIKE HER THEN THE OTHER DOGS ARE GOING TO PULL OFF THE HOG IN HAND THEN YOUR GOING TO HAVE NO HOG JUST MY OPIONUN
