I hunt 90% of the time alone, it does get nerve racking at times. Especially in the dark, I've had some close ones with bluffs. Admittly I don't coon hunt much, but it is a brushy sob when I do. Usually have to cross the river or creek as well and that's never good alone in the dark. I also worry about bigger predators making a move when I can't see as well.

You bet-- back about 50 years ago when I was 14, one night the fog set in heavy....even knowing I was only a mile from the house I got turned around (lost).. sure did scare me, but not enough to keep me out of the woods at night---did not even know what a compass was then.
heard all kinds of strange noises...Just wait until you hear one of those little screech owls---
I think now after seeing one do it, that was the source of all those "panther screams"
do keep up the faith.. and keep the hound in the woods.

Lets just say at times it is easy to let ones mind over rule what is so. I can remember all to well my first hunt with my own dog. She was 8 months and I was 14 years old. We lived next to a cemetery to get to the creek and ponds where I might be able to start a coon one had to go across the cemetery. Was I scared, lets just say that was probably the fastest 100 yards through the cemetery that one could do. I am sure I set a new record for the 100 yard dash at night with a dog on leash. No I was not scared , just a little anxious to get to the creeks where I might start a coon. Dewey
