Question about dog box on polaris ranger

Post by cbolerja »

Recently got a polaris ranger, and am starting to build a dog box for it. I was gonna get some opinions on different styles of dog boxes for rangers, pictures would be helpful.

My main question is whether any of you have have built the dog box out to the end of the tail gate instead of just to the end of the box. It would allow me room for at least another dog. However, It would also make the ranger longer which would be a problem when in tight spots and low dips. I was wondering if any of you had experience with this and whether it is a good idea or not. Thanks

Alot of the guys I know who use side by sides rip out the old bed, and make a flatbed and attach either a summer box or a winter box depending on the time of year.

Here's my setup. Works great. The only time I have any issue is when going up real steep hills with 8 plus dogs it gets pretty light on the front end. In that event I just dump a couple dogs to climb the hill. It's pretty rare that I find myself on something that steep. Maybe 1 in 10 trips.

Hopefully the picture works. Trying to upload from my phone.

The weak link with the setup is the sway bar on the rangers are pretty easy to break. I've broke one and know of other houndsmen that have as well. Polaris really shortcut the quality on this part. The bed rating is 1000 pounds but the sway bar isn't up to the same standards. Keep an eye on yours and be aware that when it comes time to replace they are usually backordered about a month.

I had a guy build my box as a topper that comes off and on using the same method Polaris uses for their gun scabbards. I'll post some pictures.
