keeping quiet in box

Post by roswellhounder »

I just finished building my dog box and took the hounds for a ride. My question is when I stop they will not shut up! they are quiet as long as the truck is running but shut it off and they start barking. How do I stop this. They are normally quiet in the backseat, so it is just in the box.

Shock them, beat them or stretch their ears to the ground

well that was gonna be my next step, but since it was there first time in the box i didnt want to ruin them. I ended up just leaving them in there for a while till they shut up. when they werequiet i would pet them up real good. I will keep at it, if I am close enough I can tell them to shut up, but its when they cannot see me. Just keep at it they are still young.

If I have that problem, I just take them everywhere in the box (work, store, etc.). They should get quiet soon.

thats what I have been doing, they just dont like me walking away, they behave just fine if I am in the truck moving or not. Guess they just need more time. I have always prided myself on owning well behaved dogs regardless of breed so this bugs me to no end. I am trying to be patient as two of the dogs are 6 months old, the other is 4 but has always rode in the backseat. looks like we'll be going for alot of rides in the near future

Convincing a dog that he is not to bark in the box has always been pretty easy for me, and several guys have mentioned a few techniques. Seldom do I have to revert to the collar.
But when it comes to whining in the box, now that can be a tough one to deal with and it seems that the collar is pretty much where I end up to put a stop to it.
I have had a few that I think could whine almost as loud as they could bark.
