He'll strike and then not move the track. I mean he's struck hard a number of times and nothin!!!! The weather here has been kinda weird though. Rain in the day followed by pretty warm temps which makes for some very humid conditions. Which I have always figured worked in our favor. But now not so sure. These dogs will run a bear. So what the heck gives. They haven't been opening on junk. We've went by loads of off game animals and not so much as a peep. Like I said he'll strike and then not be able to move it. Hey folks need your advice or opinions. Last three nights I have went out with a tried and true pack of dogs. Yeah I have an idiot or two like everyone else, they have their faults. The rig dog I am using has literally been on hundreds of bears, but the last three nights have left me scratching my head. He'll strike and then not move the track. The old dog and the pup, the juvenile thats always corrupt.The snow the rain the laughter and pain. These dogs called hounds, we chase through the brush, waiting for the tree, our next big rush.

IMHO I am not a bear hunter but have seen this many times on cat tracks. The conditions you describe is ripe for the track to evaporate or the scent just rises and dissapates. If it would stay cool after the rain, you would probably see a difference. Good luck.

I have had a similar problem with one of my strike dogs. She will rig and not go and get it going. The weather has been really hot and dry here for months and I really don't know if that has anything to do with it or not ,but I caught a bear today and left and came back a little later and made her start it and finish it. So hope that was what I needed! We'll see

Well couple days ago he went and seemed to run it backwards. But no, none of the dogs went. Coldtrail I could understand hot and dry, but it has been hot and humid. The scent should stay in the air more wouldn't ya think??? Sure lookin like a trash issue. I know if you hunt unough you'll have issue's like backtrackin. But it is the not knowing that bugs me. I guess you can only go out so many times and not tree anything before you have to say to yourself they are runnin junk. I know where I need to go if thats the case. But Im not positive. I have seen heavy due burn off in the sun and create pretty tough tracking conditions. Especially around the road sides but once they got deeper in the woods the track would improve.
The reason i asked was if all the dogs or just the rig dog had trouble was because from what i have seen, when a dog starts losing ability with age; distinguishing the right direction on a poor track was one of the 1st things to go along with physical speed. Of course I dont know how old the dog is, but i have had some begin to decline at 8 and some made it close to 10 b4 they started showing problems.
