Better Houndsmen

Postby Gary Roberson » Wed Jul 25, 2012 3:09 pm

I called my hunting buddy J. Martin Bassinger yesterday and told him I was a much better houndsman than he was. He laughed and said that he was sure of that but wanted to know why?
Here is the rest of the story...three 15 days ago Daisy prematurely lost 7 pups and then on the due date, she delivered 4 live ones. I had called J. Martin after Daisy lost the seven pups and asked if he had seen a dog loose a bunch of pups and have live ones later on. He said "No, the last two females I bred lost pups early and then a few days later had more dead ones and then the females died".
I told him that I sure did not want to loose Daisy and sure needed some live pups. Sure 'nuff, she made good on my request and is doing fine. I had 10 hunters wanting pups and most will have to wait another year. The four are doing well, 3 males and a female. I wonder if the rattlesnake bite had anything to do with the rough gestation period.
It was also fun to be able to razz my old buddy a little.
Adios,
Gary

I have always been told that a snakebite would cause a female to loose or have dead pups it they were bitten in the lasy 30 days of pregnancy.
