garmins
Just wanted to get some opions on the 220s, I hunt on a large private ranch so I seldom use tracking system. But am thinking about getting a gps just for security and to save some time, something that is quick and easy to use. keep in mind I dont really need one and dont want to spent alot of money, but there seem to be quite a few 220s for sale for not alot of money do you think they are good or should a person save money for 320. Thanks

Re: garmins
I like my 220 better than my 320. 220 does everything you need it to do and doesn t eat batteries half as bad as the 320.

Re: garmins
If you find a good deal on a 220 you will not be disappointed. They are well worth their money knowing exactly where your dog is.
Re: garmins
there is also the new alpha on the market by garmin . i have a 220 and can honestly say it has saved me time which equals money , gas which equals money ,and good hounds getting ran over or lost which equals time money heartache . the initial investment has saved me ten fold .i have 4 friends that bought the 320 s,but 3 use their 220 s and like them better only one younger kid likes the 320 better.i think i will let others be the testers of the alpha system before i leap . your hunting situation definately dictates on what tracking system you may need . before tracking systems the old fellas talked about losing hounds for weeks and or never finding them.we have come along way .the garmin has certainly had an effect on the hounding world.

Re: garmins
I don't get all the hype about the 220. I hunt around multiple crews with the garmin system and the 320 has much less interference messages. With the 220 i was pressing no...yes.. every 10 seconds..got sickening. As far as battery life, mine is plugged into a power cord 95% of the time.
Re: garmins
What about the dc30s and 40s is there big differences between the two. I appreciate your guys comments thanks. Ryan
Re: garmins
The 30s are more consistent collars, some 40s aren't worth a darn, others are great.
Re: garmins
I hunt the 320 and dc 40 in New Mexico had them almost a year and I like them i have buddies that have the 220 and dc 30 they seem to not lose signal as much as the 40 but the 320 has more maping on it the time is money and more time hunting
Re: garmins
I have a new dc 40 and a older dc 30 and the 30 has a much better range. I have the 220 and the 320. I like the 320 quite a bit more then the 220. The map seems to be a lot faster at updating, and I don't have a problem with batteries. I use the lithium's.
Re: garmins
I have a 220.........it rocks!!
Re: garmins
I have the new alpha system. I have used the other systems a lot and the alpha is the best really good range battery life and you only need one collar since it has the shocker too and you never have to buy batteries the hand held is rechargeable so that saves a whole lot of money right there

You know you can dig into the menu and turn many of those alerts off.

Re: garmins
If you have not invested in a Garmin yet, you relly should hunt with the Alpha unit. For training and tracking it seems to be the way to go for me. It does everything but tree the game. I have not bit the bullet yet, but my hunting buddie has one and I believe it is a must have! See if you can go with someone and try it out.

The 220 is the cheapest .they work fine .just make sure its not burnt up before you buy it .the 30 collars work better but hard to find if you get the 40 collar i would buy new because you might have to send it back many times to get one that works right

Re: garmins
I AM 66 YEARS OLD AND STARTED WITH A COMPASS AND ALOT OF WALKING. THEN THE TELEMETRY AND IT WAS JUST GREAT. THEN THE 220 BUT NOT BEING COMPUTER MINDED AND IN STEEP HILLY AND MTS THAT ARE CLOSE TOGEATHER I HAD A LOT OF TROUBLE WITH IT. I WOUND UP SELLING IT AND GOING BACK TO THE BLUE BOX. IN TIME I WAS IN COUNTRY WHERE I SAW THE 220 WORK AND WAS AN ASSET. SO I BOUGHT ANOTHER 220 AND GREW TO LIKE IT BUT ALWAYS RAN THE TELEMETRY. THE 22O JUST DID NOT REACH OVER THE MTS. WORTH A HOOT. SO I BOUGHT THE 320 ONLY TO HAVE THE ALPHA COME ON THE MARKET AMONTH LATER.
I NOW HAVE THE ALPHA AND LIKE IT REALLY WELL. I AM GLAD I HAVE IT. ON THE OTHER HAND IF I DID NOT HAVE THE BUCKS OR HAD OTHER NEEDS I WOULD NOT WORRY ABOUT NOT HAVING THE ALPHA FOR A MOMENT . YOU CAN GET ALONG JUST FINE WITH THE 220 AND THE DC 30S, IS THE ALPHA NICE, DOES IT WORK WELL, YES BUT IF MONEY IS TIGHT WAIT UNTIL IT IS NOT. YOU WILL MAKE OUT JUST FINE. THE FIRST THING YOU NEED IS A GOOD HOUND AND NEVER EVER RUN A DOG WITHOUT THE TELEMETRY COLLAR BECAUSE THESE GARMINS TO CRAP OUT AT UN EXPECTED TIMES AND THEY JUST DO NOT HAVE THE RANGE IN CERTAIN COUNTRY.
