Southeastern part of the state probably has the most hogs and the best access, Roswell to artesia and on south, along the pecos. There are some decent numbers of hogs further north, but they are largely on private land and getting access to hunt them can be more difficult then finding the hogs after you get permission.

Also, remember that every thing is relative, my idea of huntable numbers of game might be completely different. I've hunted with guys in S Texas and Louisiana that didn't bother to turn out a dog unless they were in an erea that had 100 hogs per 1000 acres. Where I hunt there are probably not more than 500 hogs per 150000 acres. Good dogs can catch hogs in either place, but if you are expecting a hog for every 10 acres and there is only one hog for every 300 acres, well, it can seem like there are not many hogs and they can be a little tough to find to even get the dogs on them.

Good luck

Thanks for the info! I'm used to havin to hunt hard for hogs. Not sure of the population ratio here. It isn't very high though. We're gonna be headin out to nm this winter to check out places we've found online. We're lookin more at the north east corner or near Albuquerque for work. I'm hoping to find somewhere within a hours drive to hunt hogs.

We haven't decided on any exact areas yet. I like the area around Clovis for the price of the houses and I wouldn't mind working for the fire dept there. My buddy's wife wants to be near Albuquerque so she can go to school but then will move away after she finishes. I need to research some more towns to find which ones have a paid fire dept so I can get a job. My buddy is a construction worker and needs to be where he can find work and my girlfriend is a emt so there has to be a ambulance service close by too. It's looking more and more like my buddy and I will have to drive several hours to hunt just about anything.

Have you looked into Texas. Any place North from Abilene up to Dalhart or east to Dallas. There is good schooling available also and the smaller towns are hurting for Nurses and EMTs. Check out Wichita Falls Tx. and Lubbock.
There's plenty of Hogs for everybody in Texas. Most all land is private but a responsible hound man can get permission and predators too.
I can make 'em go and I can make 'em Whoa !
God makes 'em do.
I'll take Jesus, you can have the field

There is some pretty good hunting within an hour of Clovis.

I live half an hour south of Albuquerque, there are not hogs to hunt any where close enough to albuquerque. I have a few on our ranch 2.5 hours east of Albuquerque, I have seen them up in the north east part of the state, the south east part of the state and down south by ruidoso as well as the deming and silver city area. Jobs are still scarce in NM and good ones are even more scarce.
