Breaking hounds of barking at squirrels

Post by slash7682 »

Ok, so my hound bark at the squirrels constantly and chase, tree, and even catch them. Can anyone tell me how to break them of doing these things??? I'm going crazy with them barking all the time. I try to keep them busy but as soon as they catch scent or see a squirrel they just go nuts. Please, I would appreciate any advice. Thank you

Get them pooped out on the game you want them to chase....they won't be full of piss an vinegar to bark at squirrels....

Mine will trash on a pine marten from time to time... they say if they can trail a pine marten they have a good nose...
Would you not chase a bug if it came in your house ? Squirrels are a bug in their house... doesn't matter they need to have fun too. If they left a bear or a cat for a squirrel THEN you have a problem lol

We are wanting to run either bear, bobcat, and/or lion. They are 8 & 9 months old.

wouldnt worry to much on breaking them off the squirrels yet as that is good practice for them at the age they are at. I would wait until they get to going well on the game you are wanting them to run before I would do any squirrel breaking. Andy
