Your box is probably too tall/big.

i was thinkinh the same thing its just a wooden box we threw together its basically just covers the bed of my truck so the dogs have alot of room i want to build a new one but im in the process of getting a new truck so im waiting to build one untill i get my truck i was thinking of just putting a wire dog crate back there and keeping him in it for now and see if that will work until i get my new box

Run the sh#t out of him before leaving. A 25 foot extended leash out the window. Usually they outgrow that poopin in the box. 1.5 is pushing it already.

Why does a big box let them poop in it? I've never heard this before and am interested!!

A shorter box makes it harder for them to crap. To be sure, they can still get it done but only if they really have to. Could you imagine trying to lay down and take a dump. Think about how a dog poops. 24" is about as tall as a box should be, unless you have exceptionally tall hounds. Also, if you have a huge box with only one or two dogs, they may crap on one side and lay on another. I'm not saying to make it so they can't move around but one dog doesn't need a box that takes up the full bed.

OK this tends to come up every year. First its a natural response to excitement in all animals not just hounds its the bodies mechanisms cleaning the system out to make exercise easier . Now there are things you can do to help cut down box fouling like letting them realize they'regoing hunting but give them ten minutes or so for the effects to register and clean out before they're loaded up. Roaring may or may not work as some dogs don't get real excited unless they think they're hunting it also can be a issue in its self once a dog matures it usually is more laid back about hunting and will only get wired enough to clean out right at the beginning of the actual hunt feeding a high quality low waste producing feed may also help short boxes may encourage them to hold it or not depending on the level of excitement the more frequently the dog is hunted also helps it get more used to riding in the truck and let's it remain relaxed longer. But giving them time to clean out before loading is best. But works best if you develop a ritual they can recognize and get excited and clean out before loading

Also, if you have some woodchips in there it makes clean up easier. Grab a couple sticks and chop stick it out. lol

Feed them razor blades the day before the hunt. This tends to make them reluctant to shit anywhere.
