HECK I GUESS IFIGURED BACK THEN IF YOU WANTED ONE JUST CALL DALE BRADENBURGER IN THE FULL CRY AND GET ONE. LOL!
hey there I`m a old guy can remember dale B. and Ishmo Kidd who had the cat dogs of the Von Plott family dogs/back then .As MR. Kidd would add-in after goen and blowen on a prized catdog by his (valued opinnion) hed add/ NUFF SAID ! a trade mark of his..When he ended his hunten the real line stoped, but there was a few guys scatered around from coast too cost who had some of his stock passed on 2 them too work out of and who knows what they done too it to tailor it 2 their own needs ? jack
red&whitewalker wrote:I know it really all depends on the praticular dog not really the breed. but i am curious what you guys think the best breed is for bobcat hunting ( treeing, tracking, cold nose, etc.) i live in oregon so bears and long tails are outta the question.
Reply too the above from Jack/ how long have u been hunten an training hounds ? Your question is just 2 hard ther is NO answer too how you have it framed-out ! Sorry but I guess after all these years I`ve been hunten I just can`t fathom-it-out myself. It`s like what kind of catdog u looken too keep and hunt ? I`m pretty confused there 2 ! I would attempte t2 say / one that goes-out and finds the scent and works-it successfully and puts a tree on the end of his barken an (by GOD) there is a real live cat up in the tree) when u get there under the tree ! I just don`t see breed a part of the equation LINE BREED TOO KEEP A HUNTERS PERSONAL HANDLEN GAME DOGS CORRECTNESS BREEDING-UP /yes by jack
if you read what i posted its a simple question, i really dont quite understand what exactly it is your talking about. i was simply asking people what breed they consider to be the best cat dog. simple as that.
...then you are right. Now if you get down and dirty and do some work, you will find that there is an entire industry that reports on the maintenence records and overall customer satisfaction on each make of truck. After that, Ford gets the checkered flag.
Same thing with dogs...drive 'em and test 'em and write down what you see. I will conceed that it is surely not as clear cut as with the pick'em up truck industry but you can find out some usefull info. Like anything else, you can buy what is said to be the best and get a dunker and you can buy what is said to be the worst and get a gem. I'm still playing the odds!
By the way, do you happen to drive a Chevy or a Dodge by any chance?
Does that entire industry also report the annual sales of each brand? More sold, more stisfaction reports. It is all a matter of preference, not which one is the best. They all do the same thing, get you from A to B
Larry,
I'm just poking you in the ribs a little. I always have fun getting my buddys around here all riled up over the who's got the best truck issue. The only thing I go by is who has the best maint. record and over all cost of the vehicle over a 5 year period. I drive a Tacoma. I think the Chevys are nice looking. I like the way Fords handle and my back likes their seats the best. All in all, as long as I put something to fill the gap near my lower back and don't mind waiting for the heat to get hot...I really like that Tacoma. My buddy has a big Dodge and he gets through, over and out of an amazing amount of stuff with that thing. I can get that Tacoma through slushier, swampier stuff than him though due to the weight of my truck.
While I almost 100% agree with you that them "type" of dogs are your best bet at running a track for the most part, they are definately lacking in many departments in my opinion. Folks that have never seen speed cannot really understand what speed is though. I thought I knew but recently have been more than educated. Amazing track speed is something that everybody needs to see at least just once in their life. It is truly unbelievable to say the least.
Its my opinion that a good bobcat dog has to have a nose, brains, and speed. Brains and nose can be found in any breed, but track speed, I think, will more often times be found in the Walker breed. An I ain't even a Walker guy.
Once you go black, you'll never go back! Duncan big game Black and Tans.
aline of kept hound not a breed in general/ useing a breed overall is like compareing a qt corett beigle too poodle and asken/ which is a better breed of dog too run on rabitts ! Makes no sence too me question is just too hard///breed blowers n goers are plain go and blow/ why ya take the hunter out of it who breed and hunts for a real cat dog/ and then look around at all dogs in that same breed=excludeing that top cat hunter excluded/ ya come up with what ?????? I guess I`m just too slow someone please explain here I don`t get it !
We have some really fast track dogs, but in this tall western Oregon timber you'd better not be lacking the solid LOCATE and TREEDOG.Just my experience looking for bobs clear into the dark because either we left the old dog in the truck or didn't have her along.
Tim
Color is an ego/pride thing for the most part. I,ve said this before "the best cat dog is in HIS box, just ask him". 50% breeding 75% training. And yes I know thats 125%. Thats what it takes to catch cats consistantly.
I'll have to agree that most of the top cat dogs I have seen were walker colored, but most of the sorry ones I've seen were to (I've seen a lot more walker colored dogs than any other) The only two top cat dogs I ever seen the UKC papers on though were plotts. Most good cat hunters are concerned about results, not purple ribbon pedigrees. They may be able to recite a 10 generation pedigree of their dog off the top of their head, but chances are its not written on paper anywhere. I'd say the majority of really good bobcat dogs are grade dogs with a little running dog blood in them. And a heart the size of a 55 gallon drum!
