puppy leaving tree?
puppy leaving tree?
i got a 4 month old red tick, and she trees good, and i'm workin on trackin with her. she is now understanding she needs to follow the scent on the ground to the tree. whereas before she'd just check trees. and i'm also workin on her treeing without me physically bein there and out of sight. but right now she will track and find the tree and start treeing for bout a minute. then she'll look around for me then will just leave the tree to find me. i scold her a bit but not bad. more of a, hey get back there with a stern voice. then shell tree fine cuz she now sees me. i don't know how i should fix this. i don't want her to think that if she ends at the tree she needs to find me and tell her to go back. i know shes young but she's been doin good and she has good potential and its exciting seein her grow into what i hope a coon dog thats fun to hunt with. just this one hickup cuz she's really improvin on trailin. maybe i should give her a break from drags for a month er 2. any tips would be great.

Good way to get her bored. Stop the drags and let her mature. Sound like she has the natural ability to tree so it will come with real hunting. Andy

Number 1, the pup is young. I would worry about treeing later instead of this stage. Around one year old you might worry.

alright thanks. when do you think i should take her out?

Just keep taking it to the woods everytime you get the chance. When you locate your target animals sign, encourage it but don't expect a whole lot til the dog is 8 months to 12 months even later in some strains.
