Hi Clint,

It took me some time to track this information down, so sorry for the delay. Apparently, DFG Lt. Carol Growdon gave a brief review of the new legislation to the local county Fish and Game Commission on (11-15-12) at 707 Nevada Street, Susanville. This was not a California Department of Fish and Game meeting, which is why it wasn't on our public meeting notice page, www.dfg.ca.gov/news/pubnotice.

This is the reply that i recieved on the 19th, four days after the meeting. I am sure they didn't want my opinions.

Josh the fact that you are the president of the chc makes you chc . the email was to the president was it not? As far as the organization being bigger than one person that's all good and well but when emailing the secretary of chc, he told me to contact you. Once again I will ask what is the plan off action ? If putting it on here is to risky then send a private message or better yet give me a call I would love to know about what's going on and so would alot of the others that fought this battle. Don't get me wrong I appreciate all you did for us but we have a right to know. 510 684 5675

Jason,

Josh the fact that you are the president of the chc makes you chc . the email was to the president was it not? As far as the organization being bigger than one person that's all good and well but when emailing the secretary of chc, he told me to contact you.

Yes, as President, I certainly represent CHC. I am not disputing that at all. What I am saying is that just because I/me/one person (whether President or not) did not answer your email does not mean that CHC (the organization representing the state's hound hunters) is throwing in the towel.

Once again I will ask what is the plan off action ? If putting it on here is to risky then send a private message or better yet give me a call I would love to know about what's going on and so would alot of the others that fought this battle. Don't get me wrong I appreciate all you did for us but we have a right to know. 510 684 5675

Trust me when I say that I understand where you're coming from, but I won't be sharing any information because of how it has a bad habit of getting spread around and then made public...the risk of it eventually being posted to the Internet by someone is far too great, and the last thing we need is for our adversaries to gain any critical insight into our strategies or tactics. There have been numerous examples of this unfortunate fact just in the history of communication involving SB 1221 (people making reference to their estimations of how much money CHC has, posting information that my emails specifically said not to post, etc) over the course of the last several months, and I am unwilling to take a chance that any opportunity we might have to regain our heritage could be lost or otherwise threatened because information was not treated with the sensitivity that it should.

You likely won't like hearing this, but I do not believe that people have the right to know everything. While I acknowledge that anything I do as CHC President may impact the hound hunting community, I do not think the President or any other officer is obligated to share everything with the hound hunting community; there are certain things that are simply too sensitive to share. While nowhere near the same in terms of scale or importance, the governance of CHC should be approached no differently than the governance of our state or country...meaning, our elected leadership has the authority to make decisions or take actions that they determine are in our best interest and they need not get our permission for every decision or action they intend to take. Furthermore, it is widely understood that we do not have a right to know everything that our government is doing and I would argue that we should not know about things that are sensitive to our national interest or national security.

In the event that you don't agree with my philosophy, the good news is that I won't be President for much longer (about six weeks more) and the next President may take an entirely different approach.

Thanks for prompt reply , I think you finally gave me and alot of houndsmen an answer to whether or not there is a plan of action. We understand the need for discretion , if you stated this early I think we might not of had such disconnect caused by complete silence . Knowing that there is a plan of action I think will help put some peoples minds at ease even if we are not privy to the plans.

We could all take a deep breath.

I, along with what could be thousands of people have read this thread and we people posting could take some time to review and edit our posts in the interest of make our comments softer in nature.

I write this without the intention of offense and with that being said, specifics such as bankroll amounts, strategies, participants and a great deal of other aspects of a litigation battle can not be professionally nor smartly posted here. Although it is unfortunate, we as hopeful, once again social bear/bobcat houndsmen can not expect revelations of litigation specifics to remain between us and not to get out to those against us all. We all know this.

It appears we will have to have faith in those committed to helping us.

The Bear take as of the 10th of Decrmber is 1536, I spoke to a Fish and Game officer from the Redding area and he believes that there are officers that are not turning in all the validated tags so that the quota will be exceded he also said that there is no way they will be able to enforce SB 1221 they don't have the manpower or resources to do there jobs now, he could be just talking out of his ASS I don't know him well enough to know.

A few thoughts for us for the coming new year:

' There is no hunting like the hunting of bear with hounds, and those
who have hunted bear with hounds long enough and liked it, never
care for anything else thereafter' -Pete with a little help from Hemingway

A few thoughts for Sen. Lieu:

"While the people have property, arms in their hands, and only a spark
of noble spirit, the most corrupt Congress must be mad to form any
project of tyranny" - Rev. Nicholas Collins quoted in the Fayetteville N.C.
Gazette Oct. 12, 1789
Bar K Black and Tans Placerville CA
"We must indeed all hang together, or, most assuredly, we shall all hang separately" -Benjamin Franklin replying to John Hancock's remark that the revolutionaries should be unanimous in their action. July 4, 1776 at the signing of the Declaration of Independence

Show your Senator this and ask them to explain how this is more acceptable than running a bear up a tree with a dog
The bear is either killed humanely or let go
The sharks have their fins cut off and are let go to die slowly
How can a more barbaric custom for one culture be more acceptable than the long tradition and more humane practice of running bears with hounds?
Send that pic to all CA senators and ask for a response along with Lieu's thoughts

and better yet the Democratic Senator Ted Lieu (the author of SB 1221) would not vote to outlaw this practice here in California! :?

I am at a loss for words. Probably the first time in my life. My life revolves around my dogs and my guns. Now I know that the only safe place to express my thoughts are either with the closest of company or within myself. Signing off in California for the duration of this debacle of democracy. -Pete with a few parting thoughts: "While the people have property, arms in
their hands, and only a spark of noble spirit, the most corrupt congress must be mad to form an project of tyranny"m - Rev. Nicholas Collin, Oct. 12, 1789

"Audentes fortuna juvat" - "Fortune favors the bold"

Good luck California coon and fox hunters in 2013.

Peter & houndsmen of Ca.

I sure am sorry for your loss, hound hunter's should be treated with gratitude & respect.

Suburban america needs to wake up and realize bear & bobcat are a renewable resource for the state of Ca. & should be treated as such.

All over the country. The city folk are telling the country folk how to live. Cant they see they have their own problems to deal with? John.

There more interested in telling some one else how to live there lives then to take care of what problems they have in there part of the state, most of the wildlife and natural resorces committee members were from the southern ca. area where district were only a few blocks in size due there populations and have no idea what kind of damage the bears do (1.4 million per USDA in 2011 and over 5 million over the last 4 years) just wait as the population keeps growing and us houndsmen aren't there to keep the fear of man in them.

I just hope that there are not any houndsmen out there willing to help out DFG or anyone else with nuisance calls. They can go and suck eggs as far as i am concerned. Any houndsmen in california who helps out after what happened should be beat and hung. It will be interesting to see how the next couple of years play out.
