Trashed out...again

Post by mondomuttruner »

Turned loose on a pretty decent cat and they ended up on a pair of yotes. Turned loose on a cat the other day and they trashed out on a wolf, ended up catching them after about 10 mile run. I shot this coyote in front of my old girl, she's 13 now and may not last the winter so I was happy she got in on a kill. She's usually so far behind she never gets in on a kill...lol She's started a lot of cats for me over the years and it will be sad to see her go.
It's raining here now so the cat running is shut down for a while. Only have one tag to fill so it will be a lot of just play time in the woods...
I should say after the coyote ordeal I went back in with the dogs and got the cat jumped but it was late in the afternoon and ended up calling the dog off the track just before dark. I got to see the cat a couple times but couldn't get the shooter in the right spot. I don't think the dog had enough left in him to pressure it to go up..the garmin said he put on 30 miles that day..whether that's accurate or not???

Their usually pretty good about going over cold coyote tracks but the cat track I put them on was pretty old and apparently they couldn't help themselves..lol It's a good possibility the coyotes were fresh, when I walked in there was fresh coyote tracks everywhere. Our cat season is so short it doesn't make sense for me to have straight cat dogs. I usually don't have a problem with it but when I do I just have to deal with it.
When I got them back on the cat track I followed for about 3/4 mile and they went over a dozen different coyote tracks with no problem. Was only the second time out for the year so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.
