A big day of lynx

Post by chilcotin hillbilly »

With a couple inches of fresh snow and and a no show hunter I took advantage of premium conditions and took the young dogs out on their own today. Hoping this wouldn't turn into a train wreck I turned out on a single track that looked an hour old.
As the dogs hooked back across the road one track turned into two, this might be a little to much for the young dogs. Around and around they went putting on 3 miles in a 5 acre patch, an hour later they treed on a juvenile tom.

While walking in I crossed another fresh track heading in a different direction. Calling the dogs off they soon where on there way screaming every breath, that track turned and headed right back into the same mess we just came out of. This female came back on the dog tracks, my tracks and the other cats track so many times I lost track. Another 4 miles inside the 5 acres and the dogs fell treed, a real nice female this time.

About this time I started thinking I had pushed the limit coming out on top on both races and it was only 1:00pm. Not wanting to temp fate with that cursed third race I convinced myself to look for a hot track only. Down the road to the honey hole and nothing had crossed. I turned around and headed for home cutting a track that had to be minutes old.
A quick 10 minute race and another female treed.

Walking up to the tree, Jack came out to greet me, just as he cleared the trees he noticed movement of to the left. Well ,why Jack didn't go after the lynx that was 50 yards away watching the circus I will never know. After grabbing the dogs and heading over to where the lynx had been the race was on again. In the tree this time was a young cat probably part of a litter of the female we just treed.

Now we all know what is due the next time out!!LOL Enjoy the pictures.

Afew of the dogs.

Alex, the hound you called high tanned is actually a leopard hound from Nick Riley off this site. The pictures don't do him justice, nice looking dog a real throw back to the hound part of the Leopard Cur

Andy, 5 feet I have only seen once in this country. We have about a foot right now and not expecting much more for a while. It comes 1/2 an inch at a time this year.
