baiting coons oregon

Postby kbe119 » Sat Jan 26, 2013 8:24 pm

Hey just wondering if its legal to bait coons here in Oregon. I'm having crappy luck finding them to get my dog going so if its legal I'd give it a shot

i have never read anything in the furbearer rules about baiting coons. I had the same problem just finding one, my dogs will strike em from the truck but it seemed like i would drive for days trying to find em, so i fianaly set up some tire baits in a swamp i put 3 within a mile of eachother, i watched them with trail cameras for a while and after about 5 or 6 days they started coming. I ended up taking a few of the baits so it was worth the time. another place I have foundthem to be is one place were I always find there tracks the freekin siletz bay when the tide is out. they love clams and sandshrimp. In stead of trying to find them up in the hills or on rivers me and my wife started driving to the beach at 12 am or so and enjoying some nice sunrises on the coast almost always taking home a few coons. So good luck I say bait em

Thanks, I will have to give it a try. I couldnt find anything on it but I figured if you can bait them to trap then why not bait to run them.

My honest opinion would be to call ODFW and check it out.
