Its not expensive at all to make a simple one, like the fella before said. Only thing I have to say is don't let young dogs chew it. When I would leave one in my old wooden box, they would chew it horribly and ruined a few fronts before I saved up and ordered a decent one.

i agree if you have a chewer plywood isn't the best haha but i've never had a problem with mine. i built the one i showed you for next to nothing and it works just as good as any other box. -Drew

You can build one from expanded metal "diamond shaped screen" for less then a hundred bucks also. Use plywood for roof and floor if you put floor in. It provides more ventilation and is more durable and can be extremely light weight. It can be cut with a harbor freight special type grinder for twenty bucks or just have the metal shop cut the sizes you need for rear and sides then use 2X2 lumber to frame it. If you know anyone with a welder half or three quarter angle can be substituted for the 2X2. Good luck

Great Topic.

I found wood to be cheaper and more personal...
Let's be honest, wood has charm..
I recommend, treated lumber, in all cases and no less than 1/2 in thick..plywood.
It naturally insulates, unlike metal.
I prefer heavier weight boxes, for traction over the real wheels of my rig.

The metal boxes, tend to cost more, but last of course longer, overall.

Seal your wood box and go for it....It'll last if done right.

Just as suggested, make sure that you factor in ventilation.

I would make it as big as possible, "You can always, put less dogs in a Large box, but, "you can't add dogs, once it's too small"

Good luck, post photos of your finished project.

My friend has a box for a 92 Toyota wants $100 for it. It sets on the bed rails and up against a tool box, the diamond plate comes off the sides to open the box up. The box has a center divider and small storage box built in the back, will hold 6 dogs. The box is in Redding Ca call Brandon (530)356-4992. Also have some other stuff in the classifieds.
