Kennel cough

I have a dog that shows all the signs of kennel cough. Im wondering how to treat my self. I read to let it run its course but it says 2 to 3 weeks and its been about 6. I bought the vaccination should i give this or some other meds.

i have used ZEV. it is a cough syrup for horses. You buy it in a gallon jug. made by buckley's. you should be able to get it at any farm feed store.

Is there any antibiotics I should give or just treat the cough?

If you have LA-200, squirt it down the dogs throat. An injection will cause some swelling. You can get the LA-200 at any farm supply over the counter. It's the cheapest and best remedy for kennel cough. You could also give them oxytetracycline (which is what LA-200 is) pills at a much higher cost. Either way will work.

Typically you don't want to give a sick animal a vaccination for that specific ailment. If she has kennel cough, vaccinating her for it will not do her any good. I would wait until she is better, talk to your vet about dealing with it in the mean time, I would avoid antibiotics unless she gets worse. Just make sure your dog is eating enough and getting plenty of water, and fresh air.. it may be caused by their environment (dust) or the dust or maybe mildew may aggravate the cough.

You can try not to let her out in cold for more time until she recovers from the present situation.

Two years ago is went all though the field trials here in Northern Ca. before I knew I had it I took my dogs to a hunting buddy of mine in Oregon and spread it though his dogs, took them to his vet and he gave us Sulfamethoxazole 800mg and Trimethoprim 160mg tables knocked it out in no time.

Kennel Cough is an irritation of the upper respiratory tract, and can be caused by a number of things such as canine distemper or other viral infections as well as bacterial infections such as Bordetella. If your dog has a bacterial infection, the antibiotics that Dale T described will do the trick, however calculating dosage should be done by your Vet. The issue is that if you have a viral cough, there is nothing that you can do but wait it out. That being said, if it has gone on for more than 2 or 3 weeks, you could almost say with confidence that it is a bacterial infection, and go see your local Vet. Hope it clears up soon for you.
