I new a guy who had a Matthes bred dog, it was hi-tan color, but not a redbone.

We just purchased a male and female pup with Matthes lion cross. Esau's Red is the the sire. Can anyone gieve us any information regaurding this breeding. How is there nose and what is their temperment? Does anyone have any more information on this breed? Does anyone have any information on Matthes book The Brave and other stories? Thanks for any information.

Funny how you mention this. I just bred a redbone type dog to a Mathis hound and am expecting pups in mid april. The guy in south eastern Colorado was nice enough to let me use one of his mathis males. I dont know him well but he has some very nice dogs. I know he catches a lot of game with them and you couldnt ask for a nicer guy. His dogs are small, red, and pricked eared. Look just likes Steve's dogs.
