best traits in a cat dog

Post by coastrangecathunting »

I know this topic has been rolled around more than jon warner was when he fought his neighber. I think most would say brains , nose , drive or the unwillingness to quit. I seen a dog about 17 yrs ago that could run a cat as fast as he could run a deer. I seen this on several accations . Last week i seen it again . Warners sonny dog has that gift that i have been waiting to see for a long time. I think our breeding program is paying off . If u have ever seen this from a dog you know what im talking about. It is the most beautiful sight i think there is in cat hunting . A dog that can run full speed drifting a cat track . I would let that dog sleep in my bed and i would sleep on the porch. congrats jon i think we have found what we were looking for once again.

JC, throw in a Hard Rigging, Cold Trailing Rascal with a great big Squalling, Baritone Mouth and you have the "PERFECT" Cat Hound!

Bingo, you have said what I have been sayig for a longtime in a lot of my post . Blistering track speed, a lot say speed is not neccesary to catch cats true to a point but if a person has seen it its sure makes a race short work. A lot have never seen it. Andy

Once you own a few of these type dogs there really is no need for a trail hound any longer. You don't even want to feed them. These style dogs routinely out trail the so called cold nose lion hounds day in a day out on old and new lion tracks.

I had the pleasure experiensing several hounds blasting tracks a couple of months ago. - I started calling them "Fairytale hounds", because I could believe what I saw.
- Only sad thing is, they werent mine.....

Thought I would check in just so you know I was at the meeting. Wish I had something intellegent to say. There is an old proverb that says something like "keep silent and have people wonder if you are a fool, or open your mouth and remove all doubt." So here we go: You missed the most important trait of the perfect cat dog: dead. quite a few years for the very best.

Well, I guess I can only speak for my own experience. I know the longer I have been without dogs, the better mine are getting. By the time I am 80 I am pretty sure i will have had the perfect cat dog.

Miss you guys (gay as that sounds), Hard for me to get to internet these days. It is good to come back once in awhile so I dont forget that the world revolves around hunting bobcats with dogs. You guys make my day every time I can get on here so keep the light on.

JC, sure would like to hear about that dog of 17 years ago. That is not all that long you know. You might be hunting his/her old pup for all we know. What do you remember/know about the dog?

1-strike tracks trailable or not
2-only opens on the high notes of the track[cold or hot]
3-constantly advancing the track--no rehashing
4-makes all/most of corners to elimanate looses
5-adaquate speed to push the cat to tree in a reasonable amount of time[2 to 20minutes of jump time]
6-locate and tree enough for hunter to get to them no matter how long it takes[tree enough to me equals, barks enough for me to locate them/doesn't have to be slobber mouth tree dog]
7-MOST IMPORTANTLY,A DOG THAT ENDS UP WITH THE CAT CAUGHT EVEN IF THE OTHERS DIDN'T MAKE IT OR GAVE UP/LACKED IN THE STARTING END OF THE TRACK OR AT ANY OTHER PART OF THE EQUATION!!!!

1.Cat dog Breeding.(Finding a dog from other dogs bred for cat hunting.)
2.nose(able to take an older track)
3.brains(To be able to use all the traits he was born with.)
4.speed (Run to Catch)
5.silent (until jumped,surprise,surprise,surprise)
6.Locateing (Ability to sit back on the tree, not tight.Able to watch cat.)
7.Independent (Only need 1 good dog for hunting Bobby's.)
Best bobcat dog I've ever seen was a cur hound cross. DEADLY
