Cat Stevens
Cat Stevens
Mark sure brought up some memories when he mentioned Cat Stevens. I can remember when I was just a youngster Cat came and got me to go cat hunting. We went up the South Fork of the McKenzie river. Up to French Pete creek, up that over Ollie ridge and Horse creek cat hunting. It took us three days not a bad walk I think only 90 miles, snow wasn't bad maybe a couple of feet on top. Wasn't many bob's then I think we only caught 8. Their were no walkers out here then. It didn't matter cause we hunted blood hounds back then. They didn't tree but we could keep up with them and watch the cat go up. Man those were the good old days. Dewey

You remember when Jerry Garcia of the Greatful Dead would show up and smoke dope with Conde at the N.W. Hemp Festival long about the same time down in your neck of the woods? We sure could use some of that high power stuff now to get to our dogs....Said he flew up there, I had to fly up and get him down..........There Treed!

It must not of been to long after you hunted that country dewey, that i got hooked up with Buzz Martin. I had already absorbed everything Cat S. could teach me and i started following the teachings of Buzz. We clear cut a big portion of Horse Pasture mtn. And worked our way down the E. Fork. Luckily the treeing walkers hit this country about then, cuz them cats could flat dangle in those clear cuts! Come to think of it a lot of the cats had longer bushier tails back then than they do now days. Hmmmmmm
Re: Cat Stevens
Yep that's so. I can remember those first treeing walkers they all had flag tails. I figured out that that flag was for waving good by to our trail dogs as they faded out of hearing. Dewey
Re: Cat Stevens
I always figured those flag tails were for finding them when they were lost.
Re: Cat Stevens
Good one Cobalt: but actually the best use for them is so they can come back every now and then and sweep the cob webs out of the tracks so ol blue can get a better wiff and take another step forward.
Re: Cat Stevens
At least "ol blue" is always moving forward. And old flag tail needs directions so he don't get lost... again.
Re: Cat Stevens
That is a must for all dogs, but when that same cat they're trailing on runs up their ass on its next trip through it cant really be counted as a catch....... Can it?

Re: Cat Stevens
Dewy,
It has been said that ole Cat got down in this country. Down around the Blue River. But I never had the pleasure of droping any dogs with him. Must have been an honor, as I have heard he was a very good hand. Those were definately the good old days. But also tuff, I can remember we had to walk to school back then. Up hill both ways, tuff but good.
Al,
Would love to take a couple but am fearful I would miss seeing more cats climb than I would see. And would like to count on the Grand Kids. But they are soft, not like the kids in the old days. Ya know the electronic age, vidio games, no dodge ball, everyone gets a trophy. And all the other politically correct B.S.
Take care, Willie

Cry to the heavens and let slip the dogs of war. For they must feed on the bones of tyranny. In order for men to have freedom and liberty

Re: Cat Stevens
Wow!!! And I been thinking all along them flag tails where so the other dogs could see'em cranking in the distance so when they barked the first time the others could get a visual confirmation as well. Then in the end them, flag tails remind of a flag wagging in victory, kinda like other armies do when they win!

I don't know about white ones, but the red ones and the high tan ones usually equal blood shed or game over! It's all in fun Brett.
