cameron blueticks
I've got the oppurtunity to buy a cameron bred bluetick pup. These folks moved from Wy. Hear to east Tx and have a few lion and bear dogs. There bluetick gyp( the cameron blood) had a litter and they are only cameron on the bottom. I don't remember what the sire is except they are supposed jam up hounds. Now, how are cameron dogs with bobcat, especially hear in the east Tx pineywoods? I sure could use some feedback. Maybe this will give y'all something else to agree or disagree on. Y'all seem to enjoy that! LOL Thanks guys.
Re: cameron blueticks
I think that will make a good start james I plan on having every cooler till i find what I like best as long as they come from good hounds ill try em

Re: cameron blueticks
Sent you a PM.
We told you about a Solid Broke Old Bluetick female that is a darn nice Strike dog and tattle tale as to Off Game.
We also told you that the owner had a nice set of Running Walker "Catdog Bred" females to run the Bobcat with. Once they were broke the Blue female needed to move on.
See if you can find ANYONE who has ever been successful with "Potlicker" bred Hounds catching Bobcats in your area!
The BEST Bobcat Hunter/Houndsman that no has heard of was Stan Warren, who grewup and lived in the "Big Thicket". He spoke extensively about the Coon Hunters who could catch the Lions and Bear in the Thicket in the early 1900s. How they could NOT catch a Bobcat regularly! For over 65 years he bred some "Cold Blooded" (not registered) Walker Hounds who caught over 200 Bobcat a year.
There was a very successful Bobcat Hunter there in Jasper who moved from far West Tx. He had Lion and Bear Hunted in the Guadalupe Mts of TX and New Mexico. When he tried to catch Bobcats in Your Area he had to rethink and redo his Hunting techniques and Hounds. He became very good.
P J Moye (a little younger than Mr. Stan Warren) was descended from some of the Old Hunters of the "Thicket". These were the Men who considered Ben Lilly just a "NUT" and an "Also RAN" when it came to Hounds and Hunting. P J treed the last Lion that I know of in the Thicket in the late 1970s. He laughed at the fellows who said that they were "Catching Bobcats" with their Coon Dogs.....he was always wanting to see some FUR....but alas the same Ole Story was heard, "He jumped out when he saw our lights coming".
P J caught 2 Cat a week for lots of years (he limited himself to killing only 2) then he would play dominoes till the next week......he darn sure did not run Potlickers!
So if you are just wanting to Aggravate and Follow a Bobcat around then listen to the Know it alls on here...."tighten your Boot laces" and "Walk out" a track....if you can find it in the Briars and gravel.....with any Long Eared, Bawl Mouthed Potlicker!
For Good information about Bobcat Hunting in your area listen to folks like Mr. Rod Vinson, Perk, FloridaCathunter, Alabamacathunter, Jim Moore and others who hunt the Southern Piney Woods.

Dads dogboy, I appreciate your feedback on the matter. And yes sir you did tell me about a fella with some dogs for sale. I think Ill keep looking around. You gotta appreciate someone who tells it like it is, and don't sugar coat the truth. As a Baptist preacher, I respect that!

Re: cameron blueticks
Good morning, There is no bigger fan of potlicker, big, houndy, bawl mouthed, cold nosed bluedogs than I am! Hope you don't spend as much time and money trying to build a pack of them to consistently catch bobcat in your area as I did.
They are great for coon hunting and lion hunting. Bobcat, in E.Texas not so much.
Good luck to you and I think the hardest obstacle you will have is finding a safe place to hunt.
I finally gave it up due to urban sprawl and none of the clubs wanted hounds on them. The national forest in E. Texas have some cats, but they are spotty and most I have located always seem to run to private land.
Like I said, I wish you the best of luck as there is nothing as good as a bobcat race. Damn deer hunters and city slickers!

Re: cameron blueticks
Thanks for all the feedback from y'all. As I mentioned in the last reply, I've decided already to stay away from potlicker coonhounds. I love 'em too but I don't think that is gonna be what's for me here in the pines and briars. I appreciate your concern for a lack of hunting grounds, but man there are so many hunting clubs around here with plenty of roads and lots of room to run. I am on a decent size club in Fred, Tx. Don't have any major blacktops anywhere close. I have several other friends on other leases who are always welcoming hog hunters and coon hunter, and I'm sure they would let me run cats from time to time. I've posted this before about folks don't realize how many cats there are around here. Of course there not just in every tree, but I trap plenty every year. Now I don't think I want to trap them anymore! lol Ill slip up and get me a good dog before long, maybe even a few good dogs. Thanks again. Call me and well get a hunt together. 409-289-0016

Sure never hunted the pines & briars of your area of your state nor have I hunted with the running walkers of your area. But we have some very nasty briers patches, especially along the river bottoms, that walker bluetic crosses I have hunted with were the toughest hounds I ever saw in those briers. Now I have no idea how they would have done in your area, but here they looked good. Much better than the walkers. Would love to have your cat population close to home here. Enjoy your runnin hounds.
