Just curious..

Post by oregonhillbilly »

Sorry Buddy if this goes against any rules for the Bobcat section, but it's intended for the purpose of every houndsman.

I have been listening for quite some time now and am wanting to do a poll on how houndsmen as a group support each other in the fight to regain our rights.I'm certain this will cause some heated opinions and debate, but my soul purpose is to bring to light some rationality as to how we may be losing our hunting rights and what may be some causes as to why we cannot regain the ones we lost.
Throughout the years it has been clear to me that houndsmen are a divided group, groups that do not necassarily support one another in the political battles(bear, cougar, bobcat, coon hunter groups). It seems evident that as long as the anti's are not going after your group that many of you don't take it as a threat, and many do little to resist it.I myself think this has been one of our greatest downfalls in retaining our rights, not to mention the lack of participation in fighting legislation.
I'm just curious what others think on this political matter, what part they have played in supporting any legislature that is against the use of hounds to pursue any species, and what could we dou differently.Once again my soul purpose is to bring to light some rationality as to how we may be losing our hunting rights and what may be some causes as to why we cannot regain the ones we lost.

To answer your question Tim,no I did not attend the meeting. But I am on board and doing my part as best as I can to fight for all of our rights. I was looking to see what other peoples options were as to why we have been losing these batttles and what we can do to change that.
By the way it was good chatting with you on the phone tonight and I look forward to hearing from you again.

Charles, I doubt there are enough hunters & sportsmen in Oregon to out number those who oppose hunting with hounds. I believe, it just the way the majority thinks this day and age. One likes to think CITY DWELLERS, but, there are plenty who grew up in a town the size of Powers who will vote against hound hunters & trappers. Wish I could say I felt differently. just my opinion. Have to say I learned in process of Ballot Measure 18 best not to try telling people how to vote. Al

Al your opinion is taken with respect, and it could be the fact also. I just can't help believe that there are enough of us to make a stand if we unite as a group and support each other. Otherwise we are a dying breed and we should just roll over and throw in the towel now and give up the fight. As for me I got plenty of fight left and I will not stand by and allow government agencies and politicians outlaw me from doing what has been a part of my familuse heritage for genetations! While they continue to use the same practices, only at my expense.

Al,

I was also around for measure 18 and dealt with the public's opinions . I wonder if this same public is aware of ODFW & USDA(APHIS) back door policies?

A master plan is in place with several folks who are working on this legislation.....I suspect the best thing we can do is support the efforts of OOC and Ousda and see if this is placed in the proper committee to get it to the Senate floor for a vote....

All I can say is if the time comes to vote on this legislation and this is passed over, it will be a tough time to be a politician in Salem. Preparations are in place for a plan B.

Al.
I sure hope the hound hunters in your area will at least register to vote and vote for this legislation if we reach the finish line in Salem. This will only be complete with the turn out at the polls.

A loss this round will only serve for the anti's to think like typical Democrats and go after coon and bobcats next. You don't have to like trapping or hounds or any thing out of your own world, Just be smart enough to understand these radicals want every thing we have. I suspect the loggers across Oregon have figured this out!

What lessons have we learned by watching the gun debates? Instead of looking at the solution to the problem, you simply attack the weapons, clips and ammo. Our hounds are no different.

Charles.
I will give you a call later on tonight.

Thanks, Mike
