foxhounds?
Well Boys, I would like to know how many of you own a 100% registered pedigreed American Foxhound of any strain. If you do, have you ever ran them on what they were bred to run. Red fox in the wide open with the whole North America to escape in. If you haven't you just don't know. Give me a call sometime Ol' Curt 5412585468 5415702863

Re: foxhounds?
Curtis,
Ole Perk should get on here and tell you how they do it in VA with True Walker Hounds!
Several of the fellows back East who lurk around on here run Grey Fox and an occasional Red.
There is a real good Pack of Georgia Julys in GA who run Reds and Yotes outside.
Come and meet everyone at the Gathering in Powers June 15th!

I would like to watch those running dogs fire up. I was not aware there is enough space around our area big enough to run those type hounds. Bill Paetsch and Choice Branton ran those running dogs years ago like Mark has indicated. Bill is still here but Choice has passed on.When Choice turned 70, he told me he was slowing down and only wanted tree hounds since he was good with going from 12 hour full tilt races to reduced hounds or as choice called them "potlicker Tree Hounds that can't run long or stay out long like me, now I'm old and a potlicker Tree dog hunter!". I laughed at him for saying he was good with a three hour tree hound. I set Choice up with a young treeing walker hound and when I got it broke off deer, it went to treeing coons in the early morning hours. Choice called and said, I'm packing a 22 now and killing coons....Two weeks later he said, I might be old but that damn tree hound has to go! You are right, I have no idea!
Good seeing you at the Fern Ridge Tree Hound Club meeting.

Re: foxhounds?
I own and breed running hounds, we run cats and grey fox....but these hounds will run red fox or coyotes if you train to, and they run to catch!! We did run red fox back in the early 80's with this breed of dogs in the wide open!

Thanks for the replies I appreciate it. Dad's dog boy, thanks for the invite. Might have horses to shoe, but otherwise I'll be there. Mark, Mike, I hunted some with Bill and Gene Paetsch, my Grandpa Willard Hatmaker and Choice Branton. By the 1980's the red fox ground was being cut up by roads and anti's. We still hunted coyotes. If I had some red fox ground I would still run them today. Ol Curt, give me a call 1-541-258-5468 or 1-541-570-2863

I hunted with Bill a lot in the early 80s. While cutting for tracks in the snow there is a lot of time for telling stories. Bill and Gene grew up hunting hounds in a time we all envy in many ways. Bill told me about a male red fox they ran one time in breeding season. He said the fox made a couple circles and lined out for his home territory. They started getting calls on the dogs from Silverton 4 days later. Bill can darn sure tell you the difference between trail hounds and running dogs as far as stamina goes. He hunted both.
