Down hill slide for Blueticks
Down hill slide for Blueticks
Why is UKC allowing the registration of "Blueticks" that have blue eyes and or liver color? What happen to breeding to a standard? Some breeders even promote and write about it and have a website specializing in the breeding of culls were a bunch of parrots all say the same thing.
Very few good Bluetick breeders left.

Re: Down hill slide for Blueticks
I can't answer this question and I don't have any registered blue ticks these days although I have always been a blue tick fan as my best coon hound ever was a Vaughn/Smokey River hound called Blue Moon Rock better know as Earl.Awesome!!!!
Here has been my observation on the blue eyes and liver or red ticks in the breed let me know if some of the rest of you have seen this. Anytime you double bred on Diamond Jim much you get it. Some of them are awesome dogs but it's in there.

Big ridge kennels

Re: Down hill slide for Blueticks
Hi Mike, the liver color came from some type of bird dog since liver is not a true hound color. The blue eye is caused by the merle gene and the merle gene came from breeding with some type of cur or cow dog. Your right on Diamond Jim, if you look closely you will see the cur dog.

Mr JTG
just what are your credentials as an expert on Blueticks??
you have never mentioned your name!
do a bit of research and you will find that the liver and tan color phase has been in the Bloodhound breed since the 16th century.

Re: Down hill slide for Blueticks
Bird dog was bred into the Bloodhound for the Liver color. I have done my research and liver is not a true hound color. DNA samples show this to be true.
When breeders are breeding liver color blueticks, things are going on the down hill slide.
I do not have to be an expert to know that.

Re: Down hill slide for Blueticks
SAME REASON ALL REGISTRYS DO ANYTHING, MONEY, MONEY, AND AFTER THAT MORE MONEY!!!!!! JTG they are really not much different than eighty percent of the hound owners. In fact most in our sport may be worse. There are two people that have said things that will stick with me for the rest of my life pertaining to hounds. My Dad, who simply always said. I don't breed hounds for money, or other people. I BREED THEM FOR ME. The other came from C. J. Clay, and was what his daddy Finney Clay always told him. WHEN A PERSON ALOWS MONEY TO ENTER INTO HIS BREEDING PROGRAM, THE QUALITY OF HIS HOUNDS SUFFERS GREATLY. These two people basically never met one another. But had the same theory, and I believe were at the top of their game. With out the use of CHEERLEADERS on the internet helping them PROMOTE their wares for the almighty dollar. And if old and new alike don't take advice about anything else I say or anyone else says. It would behoove you to pay close attention to the above statements. As it will contribute to there being a lot more quality hounds out there.
JTG I don't know if this is exactly what you were looking for. But it is true. And mark my words. You will see many so called breeders, making claims about stud dogs that produce entire litters of what you are talking about. And also demanding (yes) BIG MONEY FOR PUPS AND STUDS WITH THE ABOVE TRAITS!!! AGAIN PEOPLE WILL DO ANYTHING FOR A DOLLAR!!
Now on another note. We all know the poor Bluetick already has a big enough mountain to climb in the hound world. With out saddling it with any additional load.
Take care, Willie
P.S. : driftwood blue I would bet some of JTG's expertise came from the college of hard knocks.

Sir Willie, your right again. I with the two dads. JTG
Re: Down hill slide for Blueticks
It is up to the breeder to make sure the pup is in accordance with that particulars breeds ukc standard . The problem is like some of you guy's said , money . Instead of culling the defective pup there left to be a possible breeder .

Re: Down hill slide for Blueticks
Yes sir that's correct. Instead of doing the cleaning up themselves they pass it on to others to do the dirty work. By then, the problem is so wide spread it's hard to fine a pure line.
