Just curious if there is anyone out there breeding for voice? It really was not anything I ever thought too much about when I was young. Now I do. I think about it a lot, and it's one of the things I miss the most. I might be in a position to get a dog when I am 80 or so. I need to keep track of who has the most amazing voices out there in dogs that can catch a bobcat.
Where have you heard the most musical, expresive and emotional voices in a succesful bobcat dog? Some dogs sound like they are barking. Some sound like they are singing. I want the singers. Those qualities can exist in chop mouthed dogs too, as far as I am concerned.

Being 80% hearing impaired in one ear made me think about just this very topic.
My Sis dog can blast the woods. She is pretty much full running dog and trees all tree game. Once she is on a track, look out! Brains, speed accuracy, rides in the front seat like a house dog.A classy Bobcat dog that will bay a bear. I bred her to a Lightfoot english that has a large mouth. Together they produced some nice big style mouth young dogs, built to run and sound off. I like the kind of dog a kid that has never hunted before can call! I can offer a bobcat a pretty good head start even if it is sound asleep!

Re: Voice in a bobcat dog
The last cat i ran this year when they jumped the cat my 7 month old pup let out some loud high pitched squalls that at first made me think she had gotten hurt.I have never heard one of my dogs sound quite like that but i liked it. Her normal voice is a soft chop.Looking forward to hunting her again this fall. There wont be any doubt when the cat is jumped. Excited sounding voice kinda sent chills down my spine.

David,
Since you have been here and survived several Days and Nights with Dad, you know that Mouth and Color play little role in selecting a Pair of Hounds for mating. He likes a Good Mouth as well as anyone, but says as long as a Hound barks in the RIGHT place at the RIGHT time then THAT is a GOOD Mouth.
Maybe Folks can listen to this clip and tell us who has the best Mouth. (please ignore the Big Mouthed Redneck).

While voice is a matter of personal preference ,i like a chop mouth. The best 2 cat dogs i've ever owned were both chop on track and tree. They really put excitement in a jumped race. The old girl i have now bawls on a cold track ,squalls on the jump and chops when she's looking at him .Her mother and great grandsire were the same way.It was kinda like reading a book, you could tell exactly what was going in with your race.
