Re: Do Wade Lemons make good ca dogs
They are cold nosed, tough foot, hard hunting dogs that have a brain in there heads, I have hunted them for 15 years plus. I think they are some of the best. Wade's dogs have been bred best to best for many generations. He makes his living with his dogs.

+1 wac and stack. They are not perfect but there are guys making their living in different parts of the world with that line of dogs.

Wade is a pretty good guy. One of my best dogs was out of Wade's line -bought from his nephew Tyler. A pup would be a good idea. I would shy away from his older dogs. I have bought some $2500 poor performers from him in the past. He makes his living with his hounds, this means that he keeps his best dogs and weeds out the junk. In his pups, there tend to be some heart and other defects from inbreeding in each litter (not as much as paper dogs tend to have). Cory has made some great hounds by crossing with other lines. On trained dogs- always buy under the tree...

Have been hunting and raising them for ten years. Havnt seen a defect yet. Hopefully it will stay that way.

Re: Do Wade Lemons make good ca dogs
Let me start off by saying i do not believe there is a perfect "breed" of hound out there to suit everyones needs for all game.
The crosses i have seen that include but are not limited to Wade Lemon, Kim Payne and Van Johnson can be as good of dogs as there are out there in my opinion. Especially, when you are talking about running different game. Not all of them will excel at bear, lion and bobcat for instance but there are quit a few that do it all and do it with style.
Thats saying... you do your part and expose them to desired game and know how to handle dogs with different training methods to get the most out of them and reach their maximum potential. Yeah, that mean at times we have to take some blame and accountability for the dogs we have and what they do other then blame the breeder and say they raise culls cus we dont know how to train dog that dont fit our style... or what we are use to.
Wade has sent dogs all over the world and they get it done... kinda hard to argue that. If you think they are a cure all then you are just fooling yourself. They are not for everyone and may not fit your personality and style. I have trained and owned these dogs for over 12 years now and see some dang good ones. There have also been ones that didn't meet expectations...just like with everything.
If you are looking for a dog my best advice is to spend the time actually hunting with the dogs. I know Wade has done this over the years. I also know he has sent dogs to people for trial and they werent the same dog when they come back to him... Once again, not every dog is going to fit you despite how much game it can catch in someone elses hands.
Oh and as far as i know Wade sells every dog he has owned over the years except "yip" cus they were still getting pups out of her til she got killed. So dont buy into the "he sells all his junk" statement. There might be dogs he likes that you are going to pay more money for then ones he doesn't but at the end of the day you only have yourself to blame if your not doing your part and hunting with the dog to see if it will "FIT YOU"
There are plenty of good dogs out there... go hunt with a bunch and form your own opinion. If i have hounds i will always have some from Wade until they dont do what i need them to do.
Good luck in your search, jason
