Latest bobcat hunt
This weekend I went hunting started to go run a greyfox just because he is so easy to find. But it was just breaking day wet as a mop. So I passed on the fox. I went to a place that back in February I jumped a cat and they ran that cat for about 2 hrs. She got away but I didn't have but 3 trained dogs and 5 pups. plus these dogs had been in the pen and were out of shape because of deer season had been in. But this time I had all my dogs 4 trained and I had a 8 month old that is really doing nice and my other pups from ages 13 months and 2 years a total of 10 dogs. Since 7-03-13 I have had 16.1 inches of rain. I put the 4 strike dogs out and they got in front of the truck I was hunting around the edge of a pasture that borders a big beaver pond swamp. it runs into a finger branch that runs for about 1 mile. The timber along the finger was cut about 6 or 7 years ago and it has grown up in cat claw briars 10 feet tall and just as thick as it can be. We must of met the cat when we were hunting up the branch because the dogs started switching their tails then started opening and just a second they were screaming. Well I was just about to turn to them and my better judgement told me to give them a second and make sure they have it right. Well sure enough they had the back track. The cat had heard me on the truck and had doubled back on his track so the dogs had to work it out. Well in a minute Dottie had it. Well I let the old dogs have it for a few minutes then I turned everything out. well To make a long story short I listen to the race and got rooting for the cat. Those pups were doing such a good job I wished I could of caught the old dogs out of the race. We would have about a minute lose and something would find it. That ole branch was full of water the cat was swimming but I could hear the dogs sloshing in the water. Well the biggest reason I didn't want to catch the cat was you cant run a dead cat again and this cat had given me to good races. Well sure enough 1 hr and 20 min. later they caught it. The old dogs bayed about 5 or 10 min then they came on out I loaded them. let the pups bay for about 20 more min then called them out. Well that is it for me. A cat race is like having a piece of apple pie with Ice cream. I run mostly fox because that is what I have the most of. Very few cats. Good hunting everyone.
