Q's for oregon hunters

Post by stockerjon »

i just bought land in oregon. about 30 mins N.E. of klamath falls real close to the winema national forest. i was wondering if theres good hunting around there, any thing from deer/bear, to cats/rabbits. (hunt with and with out dogs.) what about snow fall? would a snow machine be needed in the area in the winter? thank you. any info would be great!

That region gets snow and a snowmobile would enable you to hunt all winter and play a role in hound recovery or reaching out to more productive areas. The Winema and Fremont are both good areas for bobcats. You will find a few bear for spot and stalk but is not a good region of the State with high densities of bears. You can hunt from a 4x4 but will be dictated by snow pack. Deer are on a decline in most regions of our State due to a lack of proper predator management.

Good Luck!

thanks for the reply mike, any idea how much snow is on the ground in the winter, i have 4x4 but no snowmoble yet, not sure if i will need to get one before winter to be able to even get to the property.. the land is about 5,000 ft. the plan is to build a hunting camp in the future.
thank you, jon stockton

You know if you go online, say on google and enter the name of the nearest city to where your property is located it will usually return with the facts about that city. Now the city should be at the same basic altitude as your property or it really does not work. You can find out all kinds of stuff. Like the average temp for a given month or year and other items such as the amount of rain / snow fall average for each month of the year. Give it a try...

Hope that helps...

stockerjon,
I live in Klamath Falls and I am guessing you must have bought property in Sprague River?
Rest assured at 5000 feet you will get more than your share of snow. A snow machine and snow shoes will be a must.
