Thanks Shane...we all have an opinion, does not necessarily mean I'm right your wrong or visa versa.

I agree with Preston to a point that there are those out there that breed no account worthless hounds just because of their ego, pride or money. I would hope that people use the philosphy of the best to the best when trying to make a cross. When a man raises a hound form a pup and hunts it for several years I think that person if they have any experience should know if the hound is worthy of breeding.

My personal pet pieve is those that breed a female on her 1st or 2nd heat cycle. That hound has not more then one hunting season under her belt, what indication can that give a person on the caliber of hound she is

This does not mean that because my statement about my hounds making me happy is all that matters to me make me one of those people. I try to measure each hound and their ability whether against my best or someone elses before just throwing them in the pen together. Who knows maybe my best is not good enough for others but I think I have a good idea of what makes a hound a keeper.

I've heard of a lot of guys that breed a female on her first heat cycle, thats crazy.I agreed with what you said to me a while ago Scott about my dogs making me happy, and pretty much got bashed for it by on a limb. One thing I know my dogs make quite a few others happy as well or so i hear on the few I sell every year.Maybe we all just don't have those god-like dogs some talk about.

If your catching consistantly day after day. I figure your in the top 10%. I dont care if there purple and run sideways there are not many dogs out there that catch day after day.

Hmmmmmm!

If a 100-125 lb bear takes it to three or four dogs, I might shoot the dogs!

A 100-150 lb bear is stretched, with three or four bear dogs!

I would say who ever wrote this doesnt no shit about bear hunting. 100-150 lbers are more likely to kill dogs than say a 300lber. And if your dogs are stretching these smaller bears I want to see proof. A dog that goes face to face with a bear that size is going to get hurt if not killed . 10 ft is more than close enough on a bear that size.

Well Black & Tan Man 1, there is the difference. Your dogs deal in feet and my dogs deal in inches. That is the difference between a bear dog and a wanna be bear dog.

One thing about these boards is everyone has there opinion and like I said does not mean their right and we're wrong just that we all have a different view of how things should be done and that comes from experience and what works for us

Bottom line is you hunt what suits you, as we all do... If you are looking for pups... find someone that has the same expectations of their dogs as you do! It's really pretty simple!

There is no reason to get personal BlK & Tan Man 1. You have your right to a opinion and I respect that. I guess we will just have to hook up and do some hunting. I'm just telling you now, there will not be ten feet between my dogs and a bear.

Lets hook up and do a hunt for a couple of days, and then tell your opinion again.

Take care.

I've had dogs that will go face to face with a bear, I never got to hunt them near as much because they were always laid-up hurt. In fact I own one right now that was bad for just mounting every bear he came in contact with. He is just a housedog for my grandmother because he is to crippled up to hunt anymore. I like my dogs to work close and tight, and run in and grab bearbutt when they get the chance, but I don't like them to hold on. Occasionally dogs can stretch a 100# bear, but 95% of the 100-150 lbers are just not going to be stretched by a pack of dogs, no matter how aggressive or suicidal they are. I can do the killing if the dogs will hold it 'til I get there. That being said it's hard to get rid of a dog that tries to stretch every bear they catch, because you know they are a sure 'nuff beardog. But I prefer mine to have enough brains to try and stay out of reach of the end that bites, and enough grit to bite the other end whenever they get the chance.

This thread was about beardogs, not dogs that will run a bear. There is a difference. I have had dogs spend hours underground with bear until I got to them, and got them out. I have heard fights go into the night and all through it until sun-up. I don't own a dog over a year old without scars, and can't count the stitches and staples they've had. My four oldest have and will catch quite a few bear by themselves, I expect it. You won't/don't see my posts on dry ground lion hunting, but I do know what a beardog is. There's more than a couple doggers around here that will say straight up, we will hunt the bears that can't be caught, even dog killers, as long as they are Blackbears. And Catch is right, beardogs know how close they can push it, they learn their packmates will save them, and small bears will get worn down and stretched if they don't climb. It doesn't happen everyday, but it never happens unless there's a few beardogs around. What makes me happy might not make all happy, we have to agree on that because it's a fact, but in turn, it shouldn't be taken as a slam, because what I consider a beardog runs to catch, not runs to bay, tree or bark. Bear, Bobcat, or Lion, I don't want any on the ground, because I know what's going to happen without a doubt, even after all the A$$ kickings, they will still try to kill it when the calvary arrives. They don't dislike what they hunt, they don't hunt for fun, they hate, and the right ones are good at it. It's a small percentage of them, true; but my dogs decide who stays and who doesn't, I have no say so in the matter. They set the bar, same as yours. It's not an intended slam, so my apologies to anyone I offended. I know better than to send my dogs to Arizona in the middle of summer, and tell a Lion hunter if they don't compare, cull them, because he just might. Unless you're sure you have what I consider a beardog, you would probaly not want to send one over here with the same instructions. Fair enough?

Im still waitng for a picture of 3 dogs stretching a bear. Ive scene plenty of dogs baying bear and such but none of dogs actually stretching a 125 lb bear. Im not saying your dogs arent bear dogs or that they wont bite one on the ass when its breking bay but that not the same thing you guys are claiming to have. And are all your dogs "bear dogs" ?Preston those two red dogs baying ,not stretching that bear is close enough for me, if that bear wanted he could easily kill both of them, all it takes is one good bite. I also noticed those are all small bear, which around here tend to be the meanest. If you want to come down and hunt id be more than happy for you guys to show me what a bear dog looks like. I dont claim to have "bear dogs" just dogs that will catch a bear. P.S im not trying to get personal just have a hard time believing this bear stretching thing.
