crockett plotts

any infomation on this breed for hog hunting would like to no how they have worked for other hunters i hunt heavy weems bred plotts now but interested in the crockett breed thank you all on any opinions.

Hunted with a few on bear. They had plenty of grit.

Crockett plotts are more of a hot nosed dog, they don't have the trailing ability like a Von, or Weems bred hound but they make up for it in grit. Crocketts hit like a bull dozer & wont quit. Mr. Taylor Crockett bred his dogs to be ruff, most don't make it as bear dogs but for a hog dog you don't need a bulldog if you have the right stuff. I use a Von male as my main track, trail, stike & find dog but once he's up & on his feet & my Crocketts can smell him, they run him down to catch him. Most Crocketts are dead quiet on track but will open when they get close or get there & it is way too much for them, but most of the time they are going to try him. Unless you are in the Plott loop, the "Full" Crocketts almost like a "Full" Von Plott are getting very hard to find anymore. Alot of people claim to have Crocketts & may have a little in their stock but the only 2 men I know of in the south that has 100% pure Crocketts left is John Jackson in the mountains of North Carolina & Jay Dorsey in South Carolina, he used to hunt with Mr. Taylor Crockett personally. If you can track these 2 men down they will be able to help you but they will not be cheap. For what they were bred to do, I'll put my Crocketts up against any cur out there. JMO

I hunt with some Von Plott lines. The one I've got now is a Joe Burkett bred dog and he seems to have plenty enough gritt to stop a hog. And as a general rule the Von plott dogs have more nose on em. I just got another young started Burkett dog and a pup. I'll let y'all know how they're coming along. I am interested in the Crockett dogs. It's just really cool to see the history of plotts and how the different lines are so night and day. But I'd be interested in hunting the Crockett lines to see how they differ.

The black/brindle dog is my older Von Plott dog from Joe Burkett "Smokey" and the lighter brindle dog is the plott we just got from Joe Burkett. "Rex"

Thanks man, from what I hear the Crockett lines look a little less houndy and more like curs. And the ones I've seen look pretty different than what I've got in my kennels. But they are still some beautiful dogs!! I want to find some and hunt with em!

i hear what you are saying i really have enjoyed researching the history and reading the online article and other info on taylor crockett and others they really have put there heart and time into this breed and i tell ya i would like to be one of the men thats gonna get the chance to keep this strain of dogs going before there is no more left but i understand they dont want there blood bred out and these dogs in the wrong hands wouldnt do nothing but kill the reputation these dogs and the fine men who have worked so hard to keep this blood . just joking but if these crocketts are half as tight mouthed as the houndsmen that have them they wouldnt even sqeak.dont u agree?
