I had a dog like that that had a really long tail that he would whack on the kennel. You would go in the kennel and get peppered with blood  I had him on a chain too and still he would make it bleed. I finally took him in and had 5 inches taken off. It took forever to heal, but once it did he was good. It was way worse in the cold winter months. It is a fairly easy surgery to do, but on an adult dog it will take a while to heal as there are a lot of blood vessles in the tail.

Good luck

It depends on the vet. An older dog they have to put under and it is actual surgery. I was lucky enough to have a vet friend do it for me so I cannot quote you on a price. I was in the O.R. when they did it and can tell you it is a more delicate procedure that docking a tail when they are a wee pup. I am sure if you call around you may find a vet to do it for a reasonable fee. I am guessing $250 or less depending if your dog has to stay a few nights or not.
Good luck

You might have too do that too the vets too get the hound shorter tailed/ it can be a source of indinguaty for the dog haven other dogs checking out his part tail bobed-off. then too if ya can, just widdle and sand his dog house entrance door first and so its not sharp on front and back sides of the entrance.Ya can grow back the hair with used crankcase motor oil missed wit warm water, adden a small amount of slfer and KRS sheep medice and maybe add som blueston wound solution in that conglobernation mixxed up.
Or ya can maybe give him a shot of penn/strip and use rubben proxxide on it and wipe clean all the foam and dry his tail and add blue note wound spray on it let it dry and get ya a tube of super glue and coat the arrea over holding him away from his tail and your self not touichen the glue either. after 90 seconds its dry and then in nther 5 minutes go reapply more super glue for a second coating. It will give everything time too heal up good usually.
If non of that gets er done/its off too the vets!

I learned that trick from Billy Lynn and his wife in Dover Tn. back in the middle 90`s arrea. He told me about it I had a walker dog who had been hooked in the front of the chest by a wild hog and i said super glue ? Why that stuff might kill him its toxxic.
Billys wife got on the innernet then fax machine and handed me a read out/ for Gods sake they was useing it in England by surgons in the opperation room !??? WHAT !! yep
So I go buy some, think futher and get som hygrenporoxxside and a shot of pennstrip and some blue not antobiattic spray I allready had. I went home and doctored on the dog and being there was no broken leaders nor rupturvaines I did it/ withit in use and after cleaning inside the tusk hole and dryen itthen sprayen it with blue stone spray for antibiotics spray and giveing him a shot right in the wound itsself then applying the super glue into the wound filling it completely up and pinching the wound together for 60 seconds and not letting the dog lick it ! 5 minutes later I applyed another outside/exterrior supper glueing too the area of the wound and it dryed samely as I did with care on the first applycation. Licking it could kill em if befor dryed completely.
The dog healed pefrictly and the injury scarr even deminished down too very small by the way/ guess I was lucky but in cases that dont involve orgins, veighns etc. Id do it again too work on a dog.
