Base station attenna for GPS

Hey yal I run my dogs on mostly deer in eastern va and run my dogs alot in off season. But during week I leave my alpha hooked to my buddy's truck and long range attenna so I can see where they cross and see if some are loafers. But I want to put a attenna high in a tree for better reception has anyone done this or have ideas thanks
