Best way is to get him in the woods and find out. Then go from there,I ruined a dog like that.Showed him to many easy ones and all he wanted were quick trees, never would grub a track out.

Get the dog around a few coon toilets or a pipe that is used heavy by coon or even show it a few dead coon it should all come back to him. Oh don't forget a little praise if the dog takes to the scent around the pipe or toilets.

Pipe: steel or concrete pipe that passes under a road or driveway or drains a field and empties into a ditch, also known as culverts.
Coon here use them for laying up for the day till freeze up comes then they move off to a den tree, old buildings, brush piles or holes on a creek bank.

The coon go in and out of them all the time, just drive the back roads at night and check them out with the dog. If a coon has been there should be a scent for the dog to take up.. You could also check out some ponds if any around, should be some coon around.. Also go back and read the forums, should be some info for your particular area... Basically what you need to do is get out and do some walking and looking with the dog, he may figure it out before you do.
