a big hello

Postby powderhogg01 » Sun Nov 03, 2013 6:03 pm

Hello everybody. My name is sam, I live in the clear creek county, in the colorado high country. I have recently discovered the excitement and addiction to running hounds. I was lucky enough to watch part of a lion hunt and now I am hooked.
I plan on purchasing land and starting a homestead, I will not be getting any hounds until the land has been purchased, so for now I am a sponge, soaking up any advice or info I can.

I found this site through predator masters forum, and boy am I glad. I look forward to reading the articles and post, and hopefully picking up tid bits from the members here.
A bit about me, I am in my mid-twenties, I ws raised on a cattle ranch and love hunting. I am almost exclusively a bow hunter and would like to pick up the skill/hobby/life of hounds.

Welcome Sam,

Glad you got into it! There is a big misconception out there that this is just a lazy man's way to kill game. Sounds like you saw the truth! There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a hound you spent countless hours training doing what he/she is bred to do! I'm telling ya it is quite the feeling but it takes a load of work. Also, those hounds become the best hunting partners you will ever have. Fun and rewarding lifestyle.

Good luck. Lots of great knowledge on this board from people a lot smarter than I.

Looking forward to the pictures of your first hounds.

I currently have a rescued german shorthaired pointer. He is between 4-6 and is a great dog. He was abused for not taking to bird hunting. Now he is now gun shy, but since I mostly hunt with a bow we have worked around it.
I found he has a keen nose for picking up tracks from fox's, but is not trained and looses focus easily with other tracks. I love my GSP, but I do not think I will stick with the breed. I am reading and trying to figure out exactly what I want.
I am looking for land in idaho or montana, and bear and lion are my targets, maybe lion and bob cat. any suggestions to narrow the field is always appreciated and looked into further.
