I would say Tri-Tronics TRASHBREAKER-- do not fool with the Classic 70 and the cheeper ones that they make-- Cannot say about the Sport dog but would guess the top ofthe line might be ok--

Just curious why not the classic 70 ? I have had good luck with mine so far........never had to shock a dog too far away yet, but it has always worked(out to probably 600yards or so) and seems rugged enough. I'm not smart enough to know what my dogs are up to if they are much farther than that......and if I don't KNOW what they are doing I sure am not gonna nail em for it

The range on the clasic 70 is just about limited to what you mentioned.

and if you can see what they are running you need to reach out and touch them.another issue was dependability.

I've used both and can say that they both have had their issues. I have the sportdog and have used it for several years the issue is its not as solid "transmitter" as the tri tronics however I've never had a failure in years with it the other is it operates on a nine volt battery. the upside to this just pop a new one in. the down side is they don't seem to last as long. the collars are so similar there's no comparison issues in my mind. the other advantage to my unit is the lifetime warranty. the tri tronics systems are nice and dependable with more functional options normally. but theres also several systems by both companies but I do believe tri tronics has the better grade of unit for their starter or bird dog pet dog units just my opinion. range on the houndsmen and trashbreakers fully charged seem very similar ie same trash race both units perform their jobs. but changes are in design are more of a issue with the sportdog units.

I have had both. The trash breaker does not have the same range, I find they may say 2 mikes but 1 mile is really tops in a line of sight situation. The Hound hunter is really a 2 mile transmitter as they advertise. I switched as back then the Houndhunter did not have a tone button.
I have not looked at Sportdogs new 3200 ? but when I need replacement E-collars I will give them a real hard look.

ok thanks for the input i was kinda going the tri tronics any way i want something that i know will be reliable. pretty much eveyone i know runs the tri tronics and i would only go with the trash breaker i would like to know i can reach out at touch them if i need to the thing that got me was that the sport dog hound hunter had a 2 mile range as well and about 100 bucks cheaper that the only reason why i asked if there was really any difference as far as reliability and thanks everyone for your input and for helpin out a new houndsmen

Why would you need a shocker that would reach 2 miles? In my part of the country line of sight is rarely more than a few hunderd yards...I agree 100%...if i don't know for sure they are misbehaving i'm not going to shock them. Most times I can't even hear them 2 miles away.
when in doubt turn em out

I went with sport dog 3225. In my country its under 100 yds or over a mile. Haven't had to use it way out there but no problems at all. you can tone or vibrate but its not easy enough to switch to use them at the same time as in a different command. the same sr300 collar is used from the 425 (1/2 mile) all the way up so you can find them cheaper if you look. The collars hold a charge for 36 hrs at least or two or 3 day hunts without worry. the controller holds a charge for longer than I have let it go. and if you run the collars all the way dead just charge them back up. My buddies tri tronics needed a trip to the factory for that. Hope this helps.

I have had a few sport dog systems imo they suck. The tritronics is real good durable good range and all that good stuff. The best system imo is dogtra its spendy but worth it. I have a dogtra 2 dog system that is around 15 years and it still works great never had to do a thing to it and i hunt a lot.

Range--- where you will really notice that you might need it -- in the case I mentioned with the Classic 70 vs Trashbreaker is when them suckers get into the thick stuff about 300 yards out -- the Trashbreaker would give them a delightful sensation and the c-70 had no effect-- there was a definite difference with the 2 of us side by side working on a pair of litter mates..
It surely seemed that the difference was that the trashbreaker could penetrate the trees better

might see the same with a different brand also ---I never had the funds to buy all brands.
