Re: Dewy walton hounds
Hey was just messing with ya back, really wasn't defending anything some are heavier than what I or most would expect. But hard to argue with results on catching game. Anyway mine was friendly messin with ya ,nothing more. I've told you in private, you put out some really nice blue dogs, that have the right traits to catch cats, or most any other game.

Re: Dewy walton hounds
I have hunted with a number of hounds that contributed to the genes that produced pepper. Cobalt is spot on, there has been some good ones and like all strains, some not so good & some culls. Some I owned and others were owned by better cat hunters than I ever was. I have to give credit to Dewey no one I ever knew came close to catching as many bobcats as Dewey. Now catching two cat in one day, I & others have done that several times, but treeing 140 cats in a season can only be in our dreams. So again kudos to Dewey. Al

Man, I'd love to see that video, but my dang ipad won't play it. Is there a way to post it so it doesn't require flash?

Re: Dewy walton hounds
Dewey Walton's hounds??? I feel no one has a strain of hounds that they came up with. Their is always someone before them breeding hounds. One person my take a type of dog or three types as I have and breed them to hunt the way I like them to. The Pepper dog is retired, she can not cut it anymore. She has been responsible for training many young dogs with a little help from me. She has been on almost 300 bobcat kills and close to 500 hundred treed bobcats. She is one of the best strike dogs and cold nose dogs that I have owned. She was next to useless until I put a running dog with her, you put her with a dog of her type and they will have a hard time catching a bob. Every dog that I hunt can catch it's own bobcat but to catch up to five bobs a day as I have you need a team of dogs that can run a cold track. Pepper and her type of dog has their place but can not do what I expect out of a bobcat dog without running dogs in their. Something to think about, You can take the best dog there is and put it with a poor hunter and the dog will come down to their level. Behind any good dog is a good hunter, it is a team you can't have one without the other. Thanks to the hunters that were before me in breeding these dogs. Joe Jackson, Jim Howell and the Turners. Good hunting Dewey

I saw in a post above by Al about Pepper's dad, Spot. Was Pepper out of Spot that Paul Sellers had and if so what dog was her mom?

Re: Dewy walton hounds
No, pepper was not out of Spot that Paul Sellers owned. A female named cody was out of Spot and a female that was half Cater Cur & HALF WALKER. Cody was bred to a walker male, skinner I owned, from that cross came a female named Paige. Paige was bred to a hound called Buck, that cross was made by Kevin Humpries & Rick Jones. From that cross came pepper. I talked to Paul Sellers and hunt with a good hunting friend of Paul/s that spent a bunch of time hunting with Paul Sellers. There are numerous hunters that contributed to the genes in Pepper. Sorry about getting Kevin last name spelled incorrect? Alkickemall wrote:I saw in a post above by Al about Pepper's dad, Spot. Thanks Al. I hunted quite a bit with the Spot that Paul had and was curious if it was the same dog.
Re: Dewy walton hounds
Oneup: Come up and hunt wit Tim or myself. Most of the hunters won't get along with these dogs. They don't open much on track until they know what they are barking at unlike most dogs bred today that are opening because everybody else is. They will start treeing at 18 to 24 months old. I don't want a dog to tree because everybody else is, they tree when they can locate. They open when they have a track not in a loose. They work a track at a run but don't over run a track bad. If raised with clean dogs they hardly ever run a off track from the start. They can be very soft not taking much abuse or hard handling. This is ideal for these dogs, they all don't make it and take a little longer to be showy. If you want a dog to open on cold track and tree by 12 months they won't. Last year I caught 18.8 % of my cats on the ground. Give me a call and talk dogs. I can give you numbers of people that have hunted with these and have young now. These are dogs that myself and others are breeding to make the type of bobcat dogs that work for us. They don't work for everybody and there are no perfect dogs. You can can catch bobcats with any dog. each to there own. Dewey 541- 942-4376
