Running dogs
Running dogs
Anybody on here run coyotes for pleasure with running dogs. Seems most everybody on here hunts with a tree hound or cross bred.

Yep, I am in southwest Iowa. I have a croghan bred female, a July male and female, a july walker mix and a plot july walker mix.
Re: Running dogs
New to this site but seemed like I was the only one that chased the coyote with running dogs with out a gun. I run liquor and hale bred walkers.

Re: Running dogs
What kind of country you hunt?? I purchased me a few coyote dogs from Illinois about a month ago and it has taken a little while for them to get use to my thick country... They were use to the wind hitting them in the face now the brush and briars hit them.... but they are getting better and I am learning how and where and such to find the coyotes...We have a lot of them but we have many different blocks and they are not in every one... just a learning game.... my dogs are walkers,, walker/july crosses and full blooded julys... they seem fast with good mouths...
Re: Running dogs
I'm in south ms. We have some of the thickest over growth and hurricane ravaged woods. It's nothing for dogs to run all the hair off their front legs and nose from briars. I hunt in flat country with lots of coyotes. Wish we had some wide open farm country to run here. Running dogs are all that's hunted on coyote and fox here.

Re: Running dogs
Is there any hunters out there who run and tree grey fox only I'm a fox hunter here in Northern California looking for some good b. s
Re: Running dogs
I run grey fox too but don't like em cause they tree. Would rather run a red fox or coyote. Out greys here run like rabbits and don't cover much ground. The reds wil stretch out and give a good chase.

Re: Running dogs
We don't have red fox here but I don't think we would cacth a red in this country it's steep and full of manzanita and white thorn brush but what ever the country is having a good race is all that matters. I have crogen cross dogs and been running Greys for a long time I have some pretty good track dogs right now but am always looking for something new just joined this site and am hoping to meet some new good hunters
Re: Running dogs
Some quicker then others but ya pretty good. I'm sure they miss a tree every now and then and some times there off a few trees but they wind the fox a lot when they locate. I treed 102 last year had a lot of good hunts the races here can last 3 hours and some u catch on the ground but all in all the dog work is a lot of fun
Re: Running dogs
It's a little different here. Fox and coyote races can last for 6 or 8 hours. If a grey trees our dogs just hunt another fox or coyote to run. No tree in my dogs just chase. The woods are to thick for very many catches. It's more of running sport here.
