House cat and pup

Post by BlueHoundsMann13 »

Hello everyone, I'm new to hound hunting and have had my bluetick pup for a couple months now and was wondering if Having him with the house cats will ruin him. I've just been kind of worried about this because he has shown so much potential and want to give him the best i can. Please tell me what y'all think, thank you.

NO, it will not ruin your pups. Think about a stock dog for a minute....They are born and bred to chase stock. A finished stock dog will not leave the house and go chase the cows out in the pasture, will stop chasing a cow when told to, and will lay quietly beside the chute while cows walk by. A hound ain't much different, or at least it shouldn't be. All my hounds will leave my house and barn cats alone, unless I ask them to chase them. My pups all spend time in the house getting house trained when they are young in case they end up hurt and need to be doctored in the house and learn from a young age that they are only supposed to chase what I tell them to.

Don't get me wrong, there are "accidents" from time to time. My dogs are great at making me look like a liar occasionally, but for the most part they respect my wishes.

Don't worry about having the cats around and telling the pups to leave them alone. Have fun!

Scott nailed it. My dogs leave house cats alone. Got one of my dogs curled up by the fire with the cat laying on then other side .
