man that sucks! I had my best old bitch get the same thing from a bear this year. it ate all the skin off her rear foot and up her leg. I hope that dog of yours makes a good recovery
"Houndn'Ems Blueticks" if it smells like a cat, they'll catch it.

My advice is if your dog gets bit or scratched by a lion to clip the hair around the wound flush any puncture wounds with a very dilute nolvasan and distilled water solution and give 24-48 hours of clavamox or augmentin as your antibiotic immeadeatley when you get home. Clavamox is expensive but one of the better antibiotics for this type of wound. You do not gain anything by doing a full 10 day course of antibiotics on a brand new bite wound that is not already infected. You are trying to prevent an infection versus trying to treat one. Most wounds can be managed by proper cleaning and flushing and making sure that puncture wounds are allowed to adequately drain.

As for the dog in the picture since that is an old wound it sounds like the treatment being administered is very appropriate. The above treatment recommendations are to help prevent this type of infection. Best of luck with the treatment and I hope your hound heals up.

My Jagd got this same bacteria this year. Just a heads up it can come from all cat bites. My dog made a local stray disappear about 6 -8 weeks ago and his ears are slowly mending now.
