Skinny hound
Eats 4 to six cups a food, mows it right down like no tomorrow, been checked for all worms and came up negative, will not gain weight, and i mean skinny does calve milk replacer work, cause it is expensive
Re: Skinny hound
Lamb milk replacement is higher in fat. I use it for nursing moms and for 2 week old and up puppies. Feed twice a day at least. Dewey
Re: Skinny hound
Have the dog checked out by a vet. I have had two similar type dogs.
The first one I gave him pro-biotics and that helped.
The second one I went to the vet and it was something to do with digestability-one of the organs was not functioning properly (kidney-liver-something like that). He gave me a powder to add to the feed 4-6 weeks later you would not know it is the same dog. Have not fed him that in about a year now and he looks great.
Med is at home or I would tell you what it was. I can't remember off the top of my head.
Good Luck--Tim

Re: Skinny hound
Adult dog? If the vet doesn't find anything wrong, try puppy food. Adult dogs get fat quick on puppy food

Re: Skinny hound
another thing you can try is fish oil. go to the horse feed supply department to get big bottles. Put a spoonful or two on each bowl of kibble. I had one who was just so hyperactive that he burned up twice the calories of bigger hounds and salmon oil put some weight on him.
Cottage cheese (the 4% fat kind) also works and they love it.
Or just feed him table scraps. Let him do the "prewash" on the pots and pans. It will turn him into a spoiled brat but he'll fill out.

I had a similar deal with my young dog. He had lack of iron. As soon as I bought this stuff called Red Cell. He gained his weight back in two weeks. Stuff works really well .I feed it to all my dogs every other feeding
What goes up ...... Must come down
