I'd take some time and think about what hound hunting means to you, vs what they mean to you. They should always support you in what you do. Trust me it's a terrible thing to be with someone who isn't supportive and gives ultimatums, eventually you have to choose.

That said, I think the best people to find are the ones who like hunting, but aren't houndsmen. I've found being with another houndsmen is like having you both being die hard fans of opposite sports teams, constantly butting heads about the dogs. But maybe that's just me. I'm pretty set in my ways, its my way or the highway when it comes to the dogs. Just try to imagine having to go home everyday with your best hunting partner, some days you just don't agree and want to kill them, but you have your space to cool off, not the case if your together, fight in the woods, and fight some more at home :o

I tell the straight before i go out with them. this is how it's going to be.
April through October , i go away friday and come home sunday.Don't go out with me if that doesn't suit. The last one was fine until the 3 year mark, It was then time to part ways while we were still getting along.
My old girlfriend from over 20 years ago , is happy to come over for dinner once in a while and that's suits me fine

Now that is funny!!! Don't care who you are!!

I have been extremely lucky. I have been married to the same woman since 6/23/1971. She was 17 and I was 21. I was hunting almost every night back then and after we had been married about 6 months, I got home from work one night and she told me flat out that I was not going hunting tonight. Well, about that time her uncle called and said "Lets go run one". Of course i said "let's roll"!
Got home about 2 AM and put dogs up and went into the house and the bedroom door was locked.
I said "open up" she said "NO" and I replied back to get out of the way then and proceeded to kick the door in. Did not say a word, went into the shower, got in bed and went to sleep!!
Next morning, over breakfast, she asked me if I was going hunting that night, and I told her that I was not planning to go last night till she said I couldn't.
Never had a problem after that.
I mentioned one time that I was thinking of quitting and she told me flat out that I was NOT going to get rid of her dogs!!!
We have camped in the wilderness, living in a tent for up to 10 weeks at a time and she is a top hand around camp, tending to mules and dogs without ever complaining!!
I am a truly lucky man!!
I will also add that we managed to raise a very good son and a very good daughter.
Son is 40 and daughter is 35. Both very successful!
What helped is that she was a stay at home mom!
Not sure we could have done it the way the world is today!

I took my girl out on a quick cougar chase over Christmas haha. She has never came on a cat hunt but helped train dogs numerous times. Had a cat cross my folks driveway into a small patch of timber. Kicked dogs they jumped it in minutes and ran about 1 mile and treed. I drove the truck within 200 yards. Headed for the tree the dogs quit treeing and started chasing. Before you know it dogs are headed right for us. I tell her cats on the ground just stay still and quit till the dogs tree. Dogs push the cat rite by us and go 100 yards and cat bays on a big blow down. We run down to the dogs and the cat only stays bayed for a short time 10 secs max. Runs and trees. I go to head for the tree and my girl grabs my shoulder and says " wait hunny wait. I can't breath I'm so nervous". I wait and calm her down we head to the tree it's a ornery female . She takes some picks we pet the dogs and head home. Couldn't have been better she totally understands why I do what I do. She watches our kids and the odd time when she wants to come the kids go to the grandparents. I'll always be thankful of the ornery female that scared my wife half to death.

Sometimes, it just takes an ornery female to straighten out an ornery female! LOL

Great story!
