I am Blessed! When my wife and I started dating she was still in high school and had to be home at 11and she knew she would be because I had to get home, load my hounds and meet up with my hunting buddys at the caution light at midnight to go to the fox woods every fri. And sat. night. A couple years later, the night we got home from our honeymoon I said lets go fox hunting. It was a bad start, the hounds trailed into a subdivision and across a horse farm that was known to be unfriendly. We spent the first part of the night trying to keep a low profile getting the dogs caught up. Turned out again and had a good fox race till after daylight, got the dogs caught by 10 or 11. She said on the way home that she sees how much I love it but she got absolutely nothing out of it, hadn't slept a wink since night befor last and that she was never going again! I also deer hunt with dogs and after each of our three sons got big enough to go to the camp for the weekends during hunting season she enjoyed her time alone. My wife doesn't care or has ever ask how many hounds I've got out in the dog pen. She loves the little puppies and insist a sick or hurt hound must stay in the house. The biggest problem I have with her is she loves to fish, if she hears the speckled seatrout, redfish, speckled perch, bass or brim are biting I have to slack off on my hunting and take her fishing. In the summer I have to take her fishing once or twice a week in the afternoon after work and nearly every sat. As I was leaving
the other night going fox hunting I ask if she wanted to go. She said, I told you I would never do that again! It's been 34 years now. I'm beginning to think she meant it!

Sorry to hear that but in the long run, I think you will be better off! Hope you find a good one!

Another humorous story before I finally met my wife was, my first hunting vehicle when I was 16 was a 1962 Chevy 11. I used to put the dogs in the trunk and put a newspaper and tie down the trunk to give them some air. Now back then fleas and ticks were pretty hard to control and that car became infested with fleas and ticks and the smell was horrible, even by my standards!. Well, I would pick up a date on Friday night and get her home in the allotted time designated by her daddy, then go load the hounds and hunt till daylight. I had many one time dates!! LOL
Seems they could not understand why my car stank so bad and they had ticks and fleas after our first date!! LMAO I bet a lot of you old timers had the same problem!!

There was a pretty little girl in high skool that drove me nuts about going hunting with me (i was a bit of a legend both in the woods and in the rack). I finally agreed to take her one night (no curfew for this one) and told her we would be out all nite and to bring some grub. I swung up to get her at dark on a warm spring night. She came out wearing a pair of baggy bib overalls and no braze ire! Could of knocked my eyeballs off with a stick. Anyways we hunted all nite catching some coon a couple cats and a bear. She had a ball and suggested that we consummate the hunt on the dog box and i agreed. When i dropped her off,her dad met us and checked out the catch and fed me some ice cold Blitz beers. Before leaving she insisted on clipping
both the dogs and my nails. When i took off i had agreed to take her again the following night. About noon the next day the dogs and i both got to itching and scratching something terrible. Closer inspection showed she had given us fleas and ticks and then cut our nails so we couldnt scratch em! Never talked to her again!!!!!!

And No willy they weren't the bugs you're thinking of!

Houndmen, don't take it too hard, wasn't meant to be.
I would like to apologize for Mark, a fellow houndsman's falling on hard times and he's making up stories. I mean a legend, really? some coon, couple cats, a bear........in 1 night?? Shady trickster if I ever saw one. :beer

I was merely pointing out that it isn't always the hunter and hounds fault. Sometimes there are other good reasons that it doesn't work out. And my words were "bit of a legend"

I lost my first wife due to hunting, thought a man should stay up her butt instead of being happy with his life, a man has to do something , to enjoy life, I never had no intentions of stoping, wont ever forget our devorce, she got the gun and said she was going to kill all my dogs ! this got very ugly real quick as of me getting a gun also, difference between me and her is I was prepared to use mine!!! my hounds at the time were what gave me piece and happiness and I was prepared to protect them and still will!!!!!!!!! no body screws with my hounds , I remarried about 7 years later this one knew what I did before I married her, said it didn't bother her, and this one is a lot different than the first ! but I have been doing this all my life and nothing will ever stop me expecially not no woman !!! am I selfish I have been told that I am, and to a degree probably am but its bread into me just like a hhound needs to hunt, I need to hunt with a hound ! and I will
