Bark Control
Bark Control
Like many of you, I have "a few" dogs and have for a long time. Surprisingly enough, my neighbors are still friendly with me - that was until my newest young prospects developed quite the barking habit. The 2 instigators are now 5 months old and seem to bark for the sheer joy of it, 24x7, in a kennel or not. I don't want to put bark collars on them at such a young age but they are starting to rile up my older dogs, my neighbors, and now even me. I am fully aware that hounds bark, especially young ones, but these 2 are going above and beyond the call of duty. What do you guys do for bark control on your younger dogs?

Re: Bark Control
i got one of those remote trianers. only had to use 2 maybe 3 times and my hound got the point. everytime she got boo hooin at her dog house id yell for her to get in her house if sdhe didnt listen by the second yell id give her a lifter. now when i yell she's not long scootin into her house. and doing it that way they "hopefully" compare the shock to me giving a command per ssay as apposed to shying them away from barking all together
Re: Bark Control
Buy you a $30 daisy BB gun. I promise it works and you won't have to use it long.

Re: Bark Control
I too keep a bb gun close by...Here is the down side. You can take an eye out with one and yes, have seen it happen and it won't be your least favored hound....Water works very well and I have used this method for many years. I like to keep my shocker for the times I need it in the woods and not have a collar wise dog....For those who wonder how the water works. I incorporate an inline ball valve about ten feet from the spigot and make sure you have enough distance from the ball valve to reach you kitchen or bedroom window and simply slide the window open and open the valve when the dog barks, usually it is after you have undressed and sound asleep and don't want to get up to correct the dog....Cost about ten bucks.
The other is putting your dogs together in the kennel to keep them occupied. A play area also is huge in making a dog shut up....Good Luck

Re: Bark Control
Sport Dog makes a good bark collar for around 50 bucks, it is supposed to train them not to bark. Shocks increasingly harder for a bark within a given time from the last bark. They work pretty good, only took 2 days on a 6mo and she quieted right up.
