Silent dogs?

I know most people like to hear the race.. So do I. But does anyone run silent dogs and having great success? Curs? Say a fully open hound that catches half the catchable cats it runs compared to a silent dog with the same traits.. Speed, nose etc.. Would the silent dog catch many more?

im unsure how a cat would react, but a friend of mine has a hound that runs coyotes like that, hateful for tryin to get in front of them and the coyotes run stright outta the county, it really freaks them out when they know their bein chased but have no idea were or how close the dog is.. i would presume a cat might react the same but might tree faster, but thats just a guess ive never run cats

I personally prefer dogs that don't say much on track. Its just the style of dog I like. I'm not at all sure if they can catch more game but I tell myself they can. HAHA!

I've ran just about every "breed" of dog you can think of on coyotes and coons.

I have a female that used to open on bobcats until she figured out they were easier to catch if she didn't bark until she is looking at it. She will occasionally bark if she picks up a lose then go right back to silent. She will also open some if the rest of the dogs are right with her but that usually only happens till she gets to the first spot there is a lose for more than a few seconds after that they don't catch up again. If run her on other game she is very vocal. I very seldom have a long bobcat race once she gets it jumped it usually trees pretty quick . I think it is because she runs silent and they don't know where she is till she is right on top of them. My personal experience says a silent or semi silent dog will catch them faster but most of us are in it for the music.

Sure, some run silent dogs, if you enjoy that go for it. My experience has been dogs that move the track with steady pressure will catch cats, barking dogs or silent dogs. If a cat is dog wise and heads for dodge as soon as a dog barks, silent dogs have a better chance of getting a tighter jump than an open trailing hound, stands to reason they can shorten some races. Silent trailers are not going to catch every dog wise cat.
In a perfect world for myself, I like a pack with some good opening trailers, with voices that make cat hunting enjoyable, ( on occasions we trail for hours, covering bunch of ground, before jumping ) throw in a couple tighter mouths that push a track hard, don/t get any better.

I run a bit of both, silent and open mouthed and a mix of both. Silent dogs tend to catch faster on lynx but at the end of the day the loud ones make a great sounding race.
For the most part lions and bear the silent ones open alot more, strickly because of the amount of scent.

My best bobcat dog is pretty silent cold trailing but becomes very mouthy once jumped. My question is you guys that run silent dogs, are they also silent after the jump? In my experience how a hound runs a jumped bobcat is what is critical in putting them up.
