Stacey
When fall training season rolls around, look me up and watch a Lightfoot English go and form your own opinion....I owned a full Lightfoot female and treed bear, lion, coon and bobcats alone with her, she could locate in big timber and tree so a broken down guy like me could stumble into the tree....I'm hunting one now that does not belong to me. He is the real deal bobcat rig dog that will blow your mind how he operates .....Problem is?
I too never hunted behind the running dog x and once I found a few nice ones and hunted with guys who own them and watched them go along side of hounds? It has me set on a different track. Here is what my opinion is about all breeds and strains of hounds, close but something is always missing! I'm pretty stupid(because I stick to hunting these potlickers) But I'm not dumb or color blind and strive to own the best possible tool to complete the job and find hounds are just not what I'm wanting to feed anymore.
All this didn't happen over night!....I listen to guys say, you don't know what you don't know and seeing is believing. I don't have much more time to hunt with health issues closing in on me fast, catching game is what matters most and I don't have time to be wrong about my choice of dogs...
I have seen with my own eyes the difference between hounds and running dog x and owning and being stuck on hounds for over three decades has me seeing the light from a different angle...... I guess hunt with them all and form your own opinion. Hounds no longer represent the type/style of dogs I want to own or settle for....That strain of English represents some real fine hounds with Jess Kincaid taking it to one level and now Brian and Dustin another! You will never go wrong dealing with either Brian Chorney or Dustin Meyers.
Take Care!

Re: info on lightfoot dogs
Stacey, I owned and hunted lightfoot hounds in ok. I know a man who hunts them in Ark. 1 in Tx. 2 in Ks, Dustin is in Idaho, Brian is in Canada. I carried mine from ok, to northern ca. bear hunting fall season. Then to the bighorns lion hunting. 20 below 1st day. bobcat and coon here. They will work in your area, if mine are representative of the breed, and they are since one of them was Idaho Lightfoot Snapshot. I would not be afraid to try one if I were looking for a hound, good nose. tree hard, and tough.

Copper
One red dog! What a nice hound....I always thought about the guys who like the English hounds would have this dog up for public stud to better the breed....I call him the border patrol agent that is straight on cats and will tattle on a dog contemplating running a bear in Oregon. He is a far better dog on bare ground and doesn't like hunting in the snow as well. Amazing to see the depth this dog has rigged bobcats off the deck and hustled them up....Jess- Brian and Dustin have made a mark in the English hound breed.

Copper treed on an Eastern Oregon bobcat. He will locate on the exact tree the cat went up and is deadly accurate in the big timber.

Re: info on lightfoot dogs
Ive heard quite abit about trailling and nose power acurate locators but am also curious about track speed. Heard mixed reviews. Im sure they are not running dogs but wondering about as far as a tree dog are they quick medium, or bluetick speed. LOL sorry couldnt resist.

I have no influence in the training of this hound....The credit on this hound goes to a hard driven bobcat man. Copper doesn't have a big booming mouth, He is a chop mouth hound that has good volume and carries well that uses it like a bobcat dog should...He rigs a track, he is off hunting the track with no babbling. He is the style hound you could drop him after he rigs a bobcat and drive off and go on hunting and come back in five hours and find him treed.
The type of rig dog that strikes over the heads of most rig dogs. Tremendous ability to locate. I have watched him take as long a half hour to make sure the bobcat didn't exit before locking on a tree and like that quality, simply put, hounds give you empty trees from time to time because they want to tree more than run as many are bred for and the only reason I choose the running dog cross over the hound breeds....
Fault. Trees up on the tree with both feet planted, crowding to me is a bad thing if you have many like types, some guys like this? I don't and this possibly separates the hound breeds from the running dog x.... I have hunted two full Lightfoot English and many Lightfoot x, all were clones. They Possess the ability to move a track in running dog style but can't compete with the running dog x....
This line reminds me of a good Quarter Horse, well balanced to do what you want except run with a Thoroughbred.... Heart drives these dogs.....Jess Kinkaid originally competition coon hunted these dogs for years and many of the coon dog breeders didn't want or need the running style we desire out West. This debate will go on forever!
Super stay put tree dogs. One thing about the Lightfoot, you never hear complaints like you do over the running dog x not treeing or weak...
I have never owned or hunted behind a dog in my hunting career I truly liked every aspect of and never will, this line has some of the least faults and that to me is as good as it gets.

Running a little 1/2 Lightfoot - lots of track speed and drive.

Bit of a spaz at the tree but nothing you can't live with.
